2002 RR battery drain

First of all can i just say a big hello to everyone as i'm a new forum member. Secondly I have a rather annoying, reoccuring problem with our RR as it keeps draining the battery when left for a few days. I have seen some threads about the previous models remote frequency accepting signals from other sources to 'prime' the electronic systems ready for start up and was wondering if this might be the main cause. Its a 4.4 V8 and to be honest is only doing short journeys averaging 10 miles. We have the RR from new and in the first few months the battery was dead and under warranty, a new one was fitted, the dealer said the battery was totally discharged and faulty from the factory. Its been fine for a few months but occassionally it requires jump starting as there isn't enough charge in the battery to self start. Has anyone else experienced this and if so is there anything that can be done to fix the problem.

Looking at the problems you are having I would say it is the BECM RF reciever thats picking up frequencies from local sources and draining the battery, I have a link to another site that can help you diagnose the problem and help rectify it, I'm Just not sure if im allowed to post the link here?.

This page might be of some use..a few possible explanations here. I'd check with your dealer if they have looked into these on your vehicle.

Shouldn't matter that the vehicle is only used for short trips, 10 mins should be more than enough to charge the battery to compensate for a start.

I'll have to look into the new aerial part as you can certainly here a quiet whirring noise from inside and outside the RR when any kind of remote device is used. Thankyou both very much for your help and the website link that helps further.

First thing to do is to check for a drain. Connect a multimeter in series, with the battery fully charged and monitor the readings. There should be a very small drain when she is asleep, that increases when in awake mode. Im sorry but I dont know the values, but a quick search on the forums should help.
