Hi all,

haven't seen this issue before but I thought I'd better ask before I start ripping my dashboard apart.

The air vent selector switch has always been tough when switching to the "clear windscreen" setting, then it finally went "clunk" and now the positions don't do what the knob implies they should.

The air still comes out somewhere,l just not where expected and not with as much enthusiasm.

Has anyone tried to fix a similar issue and am I getting myself into a world of pain if I start investigating? (Well, I'm used to pain with this car, but...)

Thanks for the help

Remove cubby box - screws on top, lift out inner bit, remove screws inside
Remove screws in transmission tunnel plastic on the sides
Pull orf heater controls (well yer can on a 2001) and undo screws behind
Keep going here removing screws until the heater control facia comes orf
May need to remove facia which includes radio, just pull forward a bit
Control things behind it - lever bits can fail

Ok, my center console is off and all removable bits out etc, but I still can't get to the actuator.
I can see the bottom end of it but no screwdriver access.
It looks as though I need to remove the entire front panel, but as it's attached by screws from the other side I can't even loosen it enough to pull it forward a bit!
I'm beginning to think maybe I should just put it back together and live with the problem, unless someone has a suggestion fairly quickly,,,

Thanks for the help so far!

Well, no idea what happened but I just fiddled with the gubbins and it started selecting ok again!
Put back together (with no bits left over) and all seems to work fine!
Will probably go wrong again at some point, but I'll worry about it then.
