hi guys
as an on going starting issue on my p38 in another thread i changed the ect sensor for a brand new original
as i thought it maybe my problem
well it did not seem to be but i have noticed the new sensor reads lower than the old one , the new sensor reads just at the top of the blue segment on the gauge but the old one half way between blue and red , anyone else had this ? seems odd but maybe they loose their accuracy over the years

Yours should be a Thor engine, the temp sensor is single sensor with dual outputs one side feeds the engine ECU the other side feeds the temp gauge. You have a bit of investigating to do.

yes correct thor engine , dual output sensor
i looked at engine temp on my faultmate extreme and engine temp was 88 deg c and on the temp gauge on dash at the top of the blue so
not sure if this is an issue or not

That would indicate as the old sensor gave the proper reading, at least that portion of it was sound. Maybe the new sensor is faulty in that respect.

mmmmm seems that way , i would assume that 1/2 way on the gauge is normal operating temp and not top of the blue ,
you would expect a new genuine part to be right but i dont want to be misled by a gauge that reads lower than it should be

Can you not check the gauge function with diag? You can with Nanocom i am sure extreme should have the same function.

yes wammers your right why didnt i think of that -i dont think it will offer any testing on the sensor accuracy though , just seems odd the 2 give different readings may end up putting the old one back in

No test of sensor as far as i am aware, but you can certainly check the gauge in various positions.

I have exactly the same issue old probe read correctly tried two new ones that both read 120c with gauge at 40% engine is not at 120c
