I have been told that the only part of a Disco that grounds out is the diff so the way to go ( apparently) is a 2" suspension lift & a set of 235/85/16 BFG A/T tyres.
Reading on the net I see the 2" lift causes camber problems that have to be rectified by fitting different arms.
THEN I read that the propshaft angles are too extreme with the 2" lift so does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in anticipation

explain?

if "the only part of a Disco that grounds out is the diff " is tru - wots the point in "the way to go ( apparently) is a 2" suspension lift"?

the bigger diameter wheels will increase the diff ground clearance - the body lift will only heighten the sprung mass, surely?

you dont need a suspension lift to accomodate 235/85's they will fit in standard arches. they wont raise it that much anyway, what are youu planning on crossing in this great off roading beast to warrant such ground clearance. stig goes laning in north wales in a standard road going disco with a/t's on it, and beleive me some of the lanes are pretty extreme

you dont need to correct the castor angle

Yella Disco, Im not nitpicking mate but I never mentioned castor angles, I said camber ( - camber = top of wheels are tipped in, + camber = bottom of wheels are tipped in)

What I was planning on doing was going on a pay & play day whenever possible, I dont want to trundle up farm tracks I want to scare myself silly by offroading on some silly ground.
I have only offroaded HGV's upto now but thats not the same thing.... I need a buzz to fill the void of tearing around at stupid speeds on my bike & offroading will hopefully push the right buttons.
I have been taking advice wherever I can find it because offroading is not something I know much about, some of the info I may have been given might have been wrong but if I dont ask I wont know & I would rather ask than spend money on something that wont work.

infact, what you wrote in your first post, he's full of **** anyway ;)

Bless you ;)

As I said, its better to ask than spend money for the sake of it

The bloke that told me that had a V8 Defender 90 with mahoosive ( tall & very wide ) wheels & enough room between wheels & arches to catch a pig in the tread & it not hit the bodywork... Oh he had modded it 3 times at a cost of £15K & was telling me to go radical on the first upgrade rather than spend money unnecessarily.

Perhaps what works for him isnt what would work for me.... I dont know, thats why Im asking

if i were to spend anywhere near 15k modifying a defender i would personally trap my own head in a vice then knock nails into it, he's either foolishly rich or like i said in my previous post " full of ****".

Im off to Manby next weekend.... I will tell him he's full of **** ;) :D
