Hi Everyone,

I'm in the process of putting some wires back in the defender after trying to clear up some bodges from previous owners. Can someone tell me where the female pin for the +ive feed is - I've got them wired up from the switch to the rear light just needing the power.

Theres also a thin brown wire with female plug coming up behind the engine - I can't seem to identify what this is either

the reveerse loom plugs in to part of the loom at the back of the engine, where it comes out the bulkhead, i forget what colours but i can look tomorrow or thursday

Yeah if you could that would be great! I took some photos and labelled stuff but unfortunately my ink has rubbed off. If you could send me a photo of it and the wiring around the bulkhead that would be greatly appreciated

no worries i have to be back under it this week to re-bleed my clutch, will take photos of where i plugged it all in, IIRC (and it was some years ago) i inly needed to connect from the switch on the gearbox into the loom on the bulkhead and then it worked, if i havent done it by the weekend give me a gentle prod to remind me

here you are bud

this is how to wire it up to make a reverse light work

you need:
- a couple bullet connectors,
- a reverse switch
- clear lens for the rear

on the below picture you can see a single green wire in the multi plug indicated by my finger - i have plugged into it a random colour wire.
you need to run a cable from this green wire to one side of the reverse switch.

now from the other terminal on the reverse switch bring a wire back up and connect it into this green loose single wire - thats the switch wired up.

now go to the rear passenger side of the vehicle and look behind the rear light cover bit and find the single green wire - mine wasnt connected to anything - now wire that to the bulb holder instead of whatever colour wire is currently wired to it and fit a clear bulb and thats the reverse light wired at the rear.

i cant remember if the multiplug or the single wire is the one that runs to the rear of the vehicle, i think its the single wire but check it with a voltmeter, one of them will be 12v live. i think the multiplug is the live and the single male wire leads to the rear.

theory is simple, the green in the multiplug provides power, this feed into one side of the switch, when reverse is selected it closes the switch and sends the power down the other wire to the rear and the bulb lights. Earthing is done at the rear on the rear light earth.
i dont know what the other colour wire you are asking about is for, mine isnt connected either.
is that what you were asking?

is yours ex-military?

Ah thats great thanks.
I just wasn't sure where the power feed for the reverse circuit plugged in to. I'll try a pin in that multipin and see how I get on.
No, don't think it's ex military
