2.5 turbo diesel not starting

A couple of weeks ago my 110 developed a fuel leak from the line from the disributor pump to the no. 1 injector. I tightened the nut a bit to see if that stopped the leak. It made it worse. Replaced the line, no more leak. But now it wont start. Could tightening the fuel line nut have caused some fault? Or is this another problem that has just surfaced (only had vehicle for a month)?

It would still start on the other injectors, this is a super simple engine so there is not a lot to look at to work out why it won't start.

I take it its turning over?

Pull off the lift pump 'out' pipe and turn the engine over, does fuel come out? Yes go to the next step, No, get a new pump.

Put the pipe back on, loosen the bleed screw on the filter assembly, and pump the lift pump until fuel comes out, then tighten it up. Then loosen the bleed nut on the top of the injector pump, give the lift pump lever a few wiggles until fuel comes out then tighten it up (make sure the cam shaft if in the right position for the lift pump lever to work, if its not in the right position, give the engine a wee blimp from the starter motor to move it into position).

The system is now primed up until the injector pipes, these will blast the air out the injector anyway so no need to bleed these...

Now turn it over untill it fires, from this point in my experience it will self bleed the injectors no problem on its own, it may take about 10seconds until it fires...

Thanks for all the help!! It is so good to know that there are people willing to spend time sharing their knowledge. One problem i've encountered is that the fuel lift pump has been by-passed to a modern tubular type pump. There is no manual lever to pump air and fuel through to the distribution pump. Is there a manual way of pumping these or could i just attach the battery to the pump with the air vent on the distributor pump open? I might just get a replacement LR pump as even if they dont last too long they make bleeding the fuel pump much easier.

Just Slack Off The Injectors One At A Time And Get Someone To Crank The Engine Over Then Tighten The Injector Up And Move On To The Next One

Success, the engine lives!!! Now to go for a spin in the sunshine.
Next job; change the cambelt, in next couple of weeks anyway.
Having printed out all of the landy workshop manuals at work i feel well prepared to start living with a landy.

why did you print them out?

its easier to just save them to disc or file then print out the page you need as required

I guess i just like to take advantage of freebies at work, and i much prefer browsing a paper version to loking at a screen. And its reassuring to know i can access that info without relying on bill gates or powergen.

So in the end what was it... air in the fuel?

Yup air in fuel. Have just obtained replacement fuel lift pump so bleeding the fuel system is a one person job. Think i've got landy fever bad!!
