I'm hoping this is a easy one for someone to answer !

Sometimes when i go to start, all i got is a click from what sounds like a relay in the fuse box and nothing happens. Just did it 6 times in a row, it's never been that bad before, hoping to sort it before it stops all together.

Can anyone help.

Could be the starter motor on the way out, if it starts to do it persistently carry a big hammer and a hefty whack with the hammer will loosen it up and get it going again. (Could be a lose connection too but when mine did this symptom - admittedly on a different car - the hammer was the short term answer, the scrappies for a "new" starter was the long term one)

Good luck!

Sounds like it could be that. The other day i started it when it was in gear and the starter motor starter and did'nt stop, had to stall it to stop.

Sounds like your battery more than anything (apart from strange starting and then not stopping thing you mentioned). Just put it on charge over night and you should be set to go the next morning. If you're not too sure, test it with a multi metre, but make sure that you get the right setting because even if the battery is nearly empty it will still show a voltage output of 12V (or there abouts) It's the amps that you need to look at. Could be that your fan belt is a little bit slack and the altenator might not be turning as quick as it could be doing. This would usually come with slight overheating problems as well.

Had the cam belt done about 2 months ago and a new altenator about 5 months, have checked the belt and the battery i have been charging once a month as it has been loosing charge cos the altenator drained it.

Did it do it six times in a row then start up as if there want owt up with it, or did you have to put the battery on charge to start it?

If it's the fost un then it sounds like yer starter motor is on it's way out. If it's the second then yer battery and/or alternator is on its way out, or summats draining yer battery.

Unless trying it 6 or so times warmed the battery up a bit and upped the juice...

The click is normal and does it whenever you turn the key, it's just you don't hear it when the motor's turning! (it's the solenoid which makes sure all juice goes to the starter when you turn it on and not to your radio, lights, etc which are also on and it's mechanical)

Sounds like the starer motor ! Thanks for that. Right....................who has one for sale.

I've got a lot on bank holiday weekend, swing away wheel, dislocation cones and a new steering joint. The list is getting longer.

The starter cog on the motor isn't returning to its dormant position properly after starting and effectively the engine is running the starter motor. Once it's done its job, the cog that throws "out" when turning the engine should fall back clear of the cog on the crankshaft - if it doesn't return properly, it will grind like fook! (and completely zonk out the starter)
