Good news I got my '65 Series 2a Mot'd today:). It had been off the road for a year and I only bought it for the galvanised chassis to fix my '66 but it wasn't that bad so I took the chance and got the bulkhead welded.

Bad news is the local garage owner who welded the bulkhead for me broke down in it 5 times going for the MOT and 6 times coming back. He was not best pleased!!!

The 2.5 N/A engine seems to faulter, die and then pickup or just die. Seems to be worse when changing gear. We changed the fuel filter as it had been running veg oil mix, but still no joy. It also will not run at anything over 25mph. The engine is not smokey and seems to run nicely at tick over (hence the MOT pass).

The upset garage owner:mad: says it could be the fuel pump or timing??? He basically got close to the stage of saying come and collect your junk and get it out of my way:eek:. He didn't enjoy working on it as all the wing bolts were rusted solid....Not sure he likes old Land Rovers any more;)

Any ideas what it might be.

hi mate check your fuel filter is on ok and check its not drawing air at the filter head also check your lift pump ive had one that was all bunged up with the vegi oil as the guy had the ratio all wrong/or it could just be worn also check your fuel lines for any blockages ,check your air filter is clean and filter hose to inlet mani fold as ive seen them colapse when the engine is revved and then open up agian on low revs another thing to check is the fuel pick /sender unit ive seen them corrode where they exit the tank and again draw air or could be dirt in the fuel tank too hope these ideas help

I'll give it a go and see how we get on. Hopefully it's nothing too serious as I think I've got carried away with it with new swivels, tyres, brakes, hub seals, bearings, bulkhead welding and now more.....At least the 90 is running fine, so I'll be able to trailer the Series 2 if the above doesn't work!!!!

let me know how you get on with it and if no luck get back to me an a will send you my number and talk you through some other things if the other stuff you try fail ive a series 2 as well its a 109 fire engine but its a petrol one and its an alchoholic have thought about a diesel engine for that too
