Hi all, have just bought a 2001 2.5 dhse 51k miles. It needs a power upgrade i think, have seen quite a few different ones advertised but they all seem to give about the same power increase etc. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good one from personal experience? Has anybody had any good, bad or just plain horrific experiences with them? Also 1 thats easy to fit!!

Many thanks

Nick

i got 1 from ebay easy to fit cost about £300 didnt notice a difference, i was told to check the voltage on the unit but never have the time as its dark by the time i can do anything and always raining.
i have been told that the powerbox is about the best on the market cant remember who told me but search on the forum and i`m sure you`ll find it somewhere.

I have no experience of buying one of these boxes/chips but if I had got my P38 unchipped I think I would head for someone like Twisted Performance

Twisted Performance - Diesel Land Rover & Range Rover Tuning And Styling Products

Ive had no experience with these people though but I have seen them at shows before so I think they are ok guys.

Ive been in a DSE with no chip and it was pretty sluggish and even with the drivers foot welded to the floor you wernt really going anywhere fast. Compare it with my chipped DSE, well, if you put your foot to the floor in mine it will put you into the back seat. I dont use the chip for racing the vehicle around though and driving like a maniac, its nice to be able to pull away without wondering about how sluggish its going to be - makes pulling out of junctions alot less worrying.

Thanks for the replies chaps, yes i know what you mean Wills pulling out at junctions you need quite a break in the traffic for the Rangey to make up its mind to move! I was running a 330d BMW before this and the difference is unbelievable, tho that said i wouldnt swap back as the RR is a different class. Also need some side steps for the kids if anyone knows where i could get some without going to Landrover and having my pants pulled down?

Cheers Nick

Cheap way to up the performance is to buy a couple of gallons of petrol and give the intercooler a good clean out. You will be amazed at the difference.

It has been suggested that i change to a larger intercooler and have power chip fitted. Price is about £1800, seems bit steep but they reckon it pushes power to 200 bhp. Not sure if the engine could handle this increase without blowing a gasket or worse, any thoughts?

£1800 is a bit steep, a larger intercooler wont cost even half as much as that and as for the chip it shouldnt cost more than £400 for a plug & play unit.

still say its a bit steep if you`re gonna spend all that to get a diesel to go a bit faster why bother even having a diesel you`d be better off in 4.6 with a gas conversion
