2.4 TDCi P0299 code

Hi,
took it for a blast today on the motorway.
While going full pelt up a gentle hill the power suddenly dropped off. It still drove but was very under powered until I switched it off and on again, then it was fine.
It felt like limp mode except there was no MIL lit.
Hawkeye shows code P0299. I thought this could be a MAP sensor issue but searching on here it looks like it might be a turbo hose, so I might was well have a go at that.
How difficult is it to change the turbo to intercooler hose? Is it the sort of thing I could just dive into?
I don't have massive mechanic skills but basic stuff I can do ok.

P029900 is a turbo fault. Damaged turbo - intercooler - engine hoses and components would show a P0100-- fault code (I've had to deal with those a couple of times).

Thanks. If I get a recon one, is that something that easy enough to replace?
I once reconditioned the turbo for an L series Freelander with a kit I got online - but that engine is quite easy to work on.

I'll dig out and post the relevant pages from the manual and post them up tomorrow. The turbo is a variable vane type, the actuating mechanism and also the vanes themselves can stick. The turbo itself might be ok with a bit of luck.
