Hi
I've recently bought a Freelander 2001 TD4 5 door.
I can't fault it except for a judder / kangarooing at about 30mph (give or take 10mph). The vehicle accelerates and brakes well.
This kangarooing is subtle - it's not a bucking bronco or anything.
I tend to notice it more on deceleration (foot off gas, no brakes) and at constant speed. When accelerating through 30mph I don't notice it.
I've tried switching to sport mode and flipping and down through the gears and it's still there.
It seems to happen between 1500 and 1700 revs.

So does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be and the approx cost to remedy?
Advice I've had so far is that it could be the bearings on the VCU or the air flow sensor.
I will of course get these checked out early next week but does anyone else have any views?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I tried it in neutral today and there is no judder at around that speed even when I tried to match the revs.
So the judder is only present when in gear (D).
Would this narrow down the remote diagnosis?

Cheers

May be worth changing the transmission fluid if you dont know when it was last changed this can throw up all sorts of problems

Good luck and let us know :)

Just an update for the benefit of others who may have a similar problem as the one I described.

After the problem got slightly worse with a sudden loss of power on the M25, I took it to an independent who diagnosed a faulty harness that connects into the ECU. The engineer tugged a wire under the bonnet to show me how there was a poor connection and the diagnostic PC showed a loss of pressure. He nudged it again and the engine stopped.

It cost be a few quid shy of £140 to replace (part, testing, labour diagnostics).

The car runs like a dream now and the acceleration is much better (and probably the fuel economy too).

I hope this helps someone someday.
Thanks for the comments.
