hi,hope you can help me,i'm having trouble with my 1999 petrol 1.8 freelander.yesterday i tried to start it and it and it eventually did after about ten minutes.today nothing at all,it just seems like there's no petrol, altho there's half a tank. got a good spark, but on further investigation the fuel pipe is completely dry,so obviously no fuel's getting through.can anyone help?

Sounds like your fuel pump. If you are in the aa or rac/green flag with home start/assistance give them a call and get them to come out. If they carnt get it going they normally get it to a local garage for you. hope this helps.

thanks tugumafu.just a quick update, had it checked out today and there's petrol at the engine,so the pump's ok,there's a big fat spark,so that's ok,we've got compression and the cambelt's been checked and is also ok,so basically we're totally stumped so i hope one of you guys can help.

From what you describe it should be running! Possibilities: change spark plugs/ check for fuel contamination/ check for blocked exhaust. D..

Hello. Who checked it out ?? Was it a garage ?? Is it starting but not turning over or nothing from the key @ all ?? regards john.

thanks for the replies guys.it was checked by a local mechanic, who's as puzzled as i am.it turns over as normal, but just doesn't catch.i've had the car a year and prior to this it was fine, ran great and with no probs at all.i'm thinking of getting a mobile diagnostic guy out to at least point me in the right direction.what does everyone think?the ecu sounds expensive, can i get a 2nd hand one from the breakers if that's the fault?thanks again eveybody.

Diagnostic is a good way to go it may save you in the long run as you will only be addressing the diagnostic failed list. Good luck with it. regards john.

If it's turning over but not catching it sounds like it's not getting enough or any fuel to burn. Is one of the more simpler things but have you tried the fuel cut out switch? If you're bonnets been slammed or you've had a bit of a bump up a kerb, it may have cut your fuel as these can sometimes be a bit sensitive. It's a small button on the right hand side of the engine bay, near the windscreen. Looks a bit like a bit of rubber, press it in, the switch is under the rubber (i think). If not, i'm stumped lol.

coil failure???? just cos you can see the spark in open air, under ompression, it takes a lot more oooomph to create one!

Hi,

I've got exactly the same problem.

I had HGF on my K series Freelander which I've done, but won't fire up.

Turns over, sparks, compression, petrol but won't even try to fire up.

ANy clues appreciated

Pete

double check the cam pulley timing, the inlet mark on inlet cam and exhaust mark on exhaust cam if the dowel is in wrong hole. and use cam locking tool or it could be out
