I'm a long way from a tow.
I think the ECU has registered a break-in and has somehow just blocked everything.
Drivers door
- unlocked and cannot lock with key
- beeps once when opened or closed
- can be locked from inside
- central locking button disactivated
Ignition on
- lights come on dashboard
- windscreen wipers work
- engine not starting
Bonnet
- alarm fires on opening can be stopped by turning key in passengers door to unlock position at least once
Battery
- disconnecting obviously stops alarm but alarm restarts on re-connection even after waiting overnight
EKA
- does not de-activate armed status.

Ideas anyone?
e.g. The disco 1 can directly program a new FOB as described in easy CD. Can that be done with a Freelander 1?

Thanks for any help

If the drivers door lock won't lock then I guess theEKA code won't work. But you need it to.....

Did the drivers door lock work previously?

I would be trying to sort door lock out first, then trying the EKA again...

Good luck.

The ECU doesn't log a break in but from memory you will need to sort out the drivers door lock. There is a switch in the lock that is activated by turning the key in the door. Thus must work correctly of the alarm will not disarm. The EAK won't work with the alarm still armed. You also can't enter the EAK without the key switch working.
Disconnecting the battery won't work as the alarm returns to the same state it was in before disconnection.

Many thanks for your responses.
I never really tried to lock with anything other than the fob So looks like the problem is the door lock. When turning the key anti-clockwise to lock, the key just turns as far as a 5 minutes to the hour position. Is that correct or should it go further?
If incorrect any ideas on which part(s) need replacing? Unlock works fine and turns to 15 minutes past
Infinite thanks to those who answered.

The key should turn the same distance to lock as unlock. Try some WD40 in the key hole. I think that LR don't recommend liquid lubricant but it's knackered anyway so can't really make things worse. The only other thing that springs to mind is a bent control rod in the door. Sometimes these can get bent if someone has used a Slim Jim to try to open the door.

Given your only other thread on this forum, from over a year ago, related to keys/locking etc - and you concluded that your locks were tampered with or broken - I take it you haven't fixed them yet?

When I got mine the drivers door lock wasn't the one that matched the key... I managed to strip the lock out and moved the tumblers around to "match" the lock and the key. If my memory serves I think that the lock would turn oneway further than the other but it didn't turn enough to do anything useful.
