I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee. The security alarm light stays on all the
time. Now the Jeep will not start. Can you disconnect the security alarm?
And if so how?
Thanks

You probably want to continue this over in rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys

Is this your ZJ or did you just buy it?
Has either the vehicle theft alarm control unit or power train control
unit been replaced recently?

Did it suddenly fail, or perhaps did the alarm light just stop flashing,
and then come on continually?

If you close the doors and then lock them with the key [don't use the
power lock or a remote] does that stop this?

Do you ever get an headlight flash or horn sound, or does that alarm
light just stay on all the time?

Have you disconnected the battery recently, or possibly have really
really loose cables?

A steady on with no start usually means the bus between the theft module
and the power control module is defective.

If you get in, close but do not lock all doors, and cycle the key
between off and accessory 3 times, do you get any headlights, horn
sound, anything at all?
This is OFF --> ACC --> OFF --> ACC --> OFF --> ACC and leave it there.

I bought this Jeep six weeks ago & never had a problem until two days ago.
The alarm light stays on all the time. The headlights do not flash or the
horn will honk. I tried what you suggested of off-acc three times & the
Jeep started. Thanks for the tip. I will also check the theft module & see
if it needs to be replaced. When I did the off acc three times the horn
honked & then it started. The alarm light is still on. Hopefully this will
clear up the problem.Thanks again.

That trick runs a diagnostic on your vehicle theft module. If it helps
start, number one suspect is that theft module. Replacing it is more
tedious than difficult. You may want to pick up a Factory Service
Manual and Body Diagnostic Manual for the vehicle, as they will pay for
themselves quickly even if you do not ever do any of the work
yourself... Simply knowing where the common components are, how they
work, how to pull diag codes without an expensive scan tool, etc. is
worth the bucks.

The diag trick comes from that factory service manual. You can get it
from www.jeep.com and go to "for owners" or just go straight to
www.techauthority.com which is the online manual supplier for all
chrysler vehicles.

Thanks again. I have three Jeeps. 2 Wranglers & the 95 Grand Cherokee.I do
my own mechanic work on them. Your right about the manuals. They are worth
the money.I appreciate your help.
