I'v just bought a 1991 range rover for off roading, lots of fun but it has no diff lock, it's been converted from a petrol V8 auto to a 200 TDI manual. I'v looked at diff lock kits but are really expensive, i also looked at fitting a disco tranfer box but i don,t know alot about land rovers and if its compatable. Can anyone help point me in the right direction cheers.

as said i prefer borg warner with viscous as you are in effect locked all the time so less likely to slip even better with locker like detroit in rear ,you can fit lt230 in as i fitted borgwarner in v8 disco ,you would need front prop of disco and high/low difflock lever and linkage ,bolts up the same as b/w

The viscous does a good job in that you can be assured both prop shafts will turn no matter what. However it wont keep all wheels turning which is a problem only diff locks can solve. I have ARBs front and back, they work.

I really don't know what advantage a disco transfer box would give. Lockers are expensive which ever way you look at it.
