Hi,

This is my first post, and first land rover so please be gentle!

I have a recently bought a 1987 Range Rover Classic, the machine had stood for 9 months but as usual it fired up and it runs and drives well, but..

It will go from high to low in diiflock only (and operates as it should ), I cannot move the lever into normal low high (it will only go forward and back not left to right).
I am still driving the machine and have not experienced any problems, am I ok to continue using it in this manner?

Is there a simple solution to cure the problem?

your help and advice would be very welcome

hi there is your difflock light on ,{ you run the risk off snapping a shaft } try moving in to norm gears {no difflock} when moving, no more then 5-mph . if it goes in to norm but difflock light still on drive in revers for a bit this norm takes light off.

Hi Maddog

Thanks for the advice, tried what you suggested, did not work first couple of times. When I tried for 3rd time light went out and the machine gave a jump, with a loud bang from underside ( in box I pressume ) I thought it had all gone for a ball of chalk, but when I tried to move all was working , no light and all gears available.

Heart was in mouth, and expensive bits sprang to mind, but all is well and running great. Had her checked out by 4x4 specialist just in case and he can find nothing wrong ( but cannot understand how there is not ).

so once agin thanks for the advice

cheers Saltire
