Hello on my 1986 2.5na I have an oil temp gauge that’s hooked up but under the hood I see no oil temp sending unit or any wires besides the oil pressure sending unit. Can someone tell me what color the wire should be from firewall and where should the sender be?

I looked can’t see any wires going to anything there you have a pic with where it would be?

Im afraid not, there is only two places it can be that I am aware of , the sump (in the side) or the oil filter housing.
Has it worked in the past? Does it have an oil cooler?

Nope no oil cooler and the side of oil filter has oil pressure sending unit and 2 other blanked off holes. I just got this a month ago and it has the oil temp gauge so I’m assuming at one time it was hooked up and worked

Are the blanks screw in blanks? Its quite possible that its been removed and blanked off.

Yea blank but a big one. Do you know what the wire color is that the sender would plug into on the firewall harness?

I could have a look through my workshop manuals for you over the week end but Im not sure if they cover military stuff, have you tried Google for a wiring diagram?

Yea didn’t come up with anything. Wouldn’t the harness be the same on a military and civilian 1986?

Possibly not, Im not sure oil temp on a diesel was a civilian thing, I dont think Ive ever seen one. You could try one of the military forums?

@mystery might be able to help? but ive just had a quick google and there are a few out there.

This one shows it but its hard to see if it has a trace or not.

Dont know if it helps but on my military 101 the oil temp guage in the cluster was capillary operated although had been disonected at both ends...
