Hi all,

I have here a largely original 1984 FFR 109. 24v electrics with a light green engine.

Oil temp gauge and fuel gauge do not work properly. Haven’t started worrying about the fuel gauge yet.

The issue is when the oil temp sender is plugged in the needle maxes out into the red.

- Water temp gauge and other things (like low oil switch) all work.
- Voltage at sump end of sender wire reads 24v exactly.
- When unplugged from sender unit gauge reads zero
- Replaced sender with Lucas temp sender part no. 560794. Issue persists
- At back of gauge there are two original looking wires with Lucas type colouring. Presume earth and feed. If I unplug the earth the needle remains at max. If I unplug the feed (24.2v) the needle stays at max.

Does this mean I have a short in the feed wire somewhere? If so why does the needle drop back if the sender is unplugged down at the sump?

Is there anything at the back of the dash I should be looking at?

Any help or fault finding ideas welcome.

Cheers
