12v Millitary????

Hi i have an ex RN Landy and ever since ive owned it, its been running on 12v, i always assumed it had been converted but i was looking on ebay for rear wiring loom and i keep seeing 12v millitary!

anyone have any info on these and wether civilian land rover looms will fit?

and everything on the landy is 12v its not like it has 2 batterys and the voltage is stepped down, it has 12v alternator, 12 volt lights etc.

So far as I`m aware only FFR (fitted for radio) vehicles are 24v

24 volts are FFR (Fitted for Radio)
12 volts are either General Service ((GS) uprated cooling and HD chassis etc), or Civie spec vehicles (CL) painted to look military

FFR were mostly 109 rag tops, and a few lightweights.

If you have the mil-spec switches, then you'll have a more complicated wiring loom to allow you to switch various lights on and off independently. Civi looms wont support this obviously.

You'll need to either strip your loom out and use it as a template to build a new one yourself, or buy a loom in and delete the mil-spec switchboard.

I'm going to make my own loom, but will probably delete the military switches for simplicity.

im thinking of just reparing the loom, i just have so many issues with my rear lights i'll have to check the whole rear loom, it has millitary switches and still has its millitary ID stenciled into the dash.

High lander if you make a loom please post a thread on it because that would be interesting to follow what you do

At the speed this project is progressing, that'll probably be some time around 2040 - but yes, will make a thread on it.

Actually, I've had a 15 year old lad offer to give me a hand with it - so if he lives up to it that should push things forward a bit.

Im guessing mine is General service then, just been looking online and im stuggling to find info on them, all i got so far is they were introduced in 1971.

anyone got info on them? like what parts are different etc?
