Hi all, just got a freelander td4 and fitting the 12s socket for caravan fridge etc, purchased a smart combi relay.but need to get poss feed from battery whats the best route for cable.thanks gary

I had one fitted when I had a caravan. The fitter routed the cable from the battery positive, with an in line fuse, across the engine bay attaching it to the vacuum hose running across the scuttle to the brake servo. The cable was then routed through the scuttle with the wiring loom, down past the fuse box in the drivers foot well, then tucked under the carpet down the drivers side, through to the passenger side and round the plastic cover for the wheel arch. The O/S rear cover was removed and the relay fitted in the space in the body behind and below the interior boot light. Connections were then made to the 12s socket. Note that the relay switching point is adjustable, so the relay should switch when the engine is running from the higher voltage generated by the alternator, but should open when the engine is stopped. This is to prevent draining the car battery when the caravan is connected but the car is stationary. Eric.

Hi,
Done the 12N & 12S on mine took the 12S feed direct from battery post 6mm lug using 4.5mm wire to a new 30A fuse mounted under main ECU next to battery (there are a few spare 6mm studs under there to bolt things onto). Then into a length of 8mm flexible conduit (fleabay), down bulkhed and followed route of fuel lines under vehicle to appear under LHS bung in rear quarter floor where I fitted all of the switching relays etc. next to suspension turret behind the rear trim, then back out to the 12S. I used a voltage sensing relay in mine too :)
Cable tie the conduit to the fixings next to the fuel lines not the lines themselves (just in case) this route is well protected and avoids disturbing all of the internal trim.
I also fitted a charging socket into the LHS rear trim at the same time (fed from the 12S feed - just in case) part no's - Trim (grey) AWR5168 LPW and socket YXW100040 less than £20 at dealer, LR wanted £40+ for the kit
Hope it helps?
