First must apologise as not been very active here for a while - too many projects, too much work and not enough time...
I've now had the P38 for just over a year and thought that warranted a brief update.
So, the big question of what broke in that time first... Well, the grand sum of 1 hose. Yes, that was my only issue!
What did I spend? Well, apart from a full hose kit (proverbial pessimist and expected all the others to go one by one), I replaced the front down pipes and cats - not blowing but very noisy and had clearly disintegrated inside. New rubber all around in first few weeks. She's 'misplaced' about 2.5L of engine oil - I'm guessing a mix of leaked a bit and at 100K on this engine, probably burned a bit (no smoke, but cats tend to mask that a bit) MoT needed handbrake adjustment (close to end of travel), o/s upper ball joint dust cover, and front to rear brake line not sufficiently attached. A few raised eyebrows at the 190K miles at the test station
Economy wise, I'm getting around 11mpg on gas most of the time but as most use is short hilly journeys around town, not too surprised (Cost equivalent of 22mpg at the moment). On a run the economy improves dramatically and on motorway at 65-70 I can get 20mpg - a cost equivalent to 42mpg!!! Since changing from the Disco to the P38, my fuel bill has almost halved! (A surprise as going from a 3.9 V8 to a 4.6 V8) On the way up to Wolverhampton last week, I brimmed the tank here and then again at Gordano services - 18.2L/84miles.
Faults are pretty much as they were when I got her and now there are no bombshells in the first 12M of ownership, a full service and snagging list is on the agenda. Headlining, N/S blend motor, N/S 'O' rings, a few bits of rust and seal on sunroof and heated passenger seat! The only other niggle is the EAS is slow to resume 'normal' height on cold mornings - I can get 200 yards from home before she's 'up'. Bags look in good condition and have all been changed by P/O in last 3-4 years as has compressor, so suspect a small leak in compressor/block somewhere. There are two small holes in inner cills need patching
So they're not ALL bad after all
