Still hunting for a defender, what a nightmare and weathers getting worse which wont help prices

but seen a few 110s about for good prices compared to 90s...just wondering what the 110s are like fuel wise ? if both were say a 200tdi, is there much in it ? and size wise for off roading etc, whats the 110 like ? although its going to be just me in it 85% of the time, i think maybe a 110 would be a bit too big and a bit of a waste, but black ones do look quite hummer urban cool like

going to look at a 90 tomorrow that he says is solid and good ,but find 99% of sellers say that , its proving very hard work with a 5k budget even

Can't help to much on the fuel differences but my 110 is averaging 28mpg at the moment (2002 TD5).

As for to big, my chickasaurus has had MY 110 since about two weeks after I bought it. She can now park it pretty much anywhere and she's a 5ft6inch petite gym instructor.

I doubt you would regret getting a 110 over a 90, or visa-versa.

Happy shopping!

Just my opinion and please bear in mind I know nothing, at all!!!

feel free to post links of them ?

im just finding it real hard, weeks now of constant looking, askign, calling, etc, sensibly priced ones where the sellers know them have a realistic price and list them properly , tend to go real quick, ones where the seller has a 1988 one with a lick of paint and thinks its worth 6 grand , tend to not sell or fast, neither do ok ones that are also over priced with sellers thinking they are worth 4,5 grand, when really they prob worth 3-4 grand

what im ideally after is a black 90, 200tdi with country windows, but also open to a td if its more or less the same but priced 2 grand cheaper for the sake of the tdi engine

but seen some nice 110`s and finding you get more for your money 110 wise, so i just want to find out a bit about them and what the fuel difference is etc, still not sure if its "too big" for just myself most of the time ? ie having the double lot of seats then the rear area, a 12 seater for just myself seems a bit much ?

Here's the link to the one I have for sale Land Rovers For Sale - 1995 Defender 300TDI Hardtop - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
It's not mine, I'm selling it for a mate, what I should do is sell mine and buy this but after all the work, money, sweat and blood I've put into mine over the last few months I just can't do it.

It will be on ebay next weekend if no one on here wants it.

As you say, you get more for your money with a 110 !

Mine has averaged 30 mpg since I fitted the 300tdi last year, so it doesn't sound like there is much difference with a 90. The longer wheelbase makes it more stable, with less nodding front to back. I did the same comparision and the 110 won hands down.

Just look in the back of a 90 at the space available for peopleand gear. Compare that to the 110 that is long enough to be used as an occasional camper.

One thing to consider is the GVW of the 110 could limit your MOT station choices. CSW's with a BOGE strut are rated at 2950kgs, whereas vans are 3050kgs usually. 3000kgs and above limits you to class 7 stations which are not so plentiful.

you will soon find a 90 very small in the back if you want to carry more than 2 people and any kit... owned both and a 110 wins hands down every time and cheaper to buy

Cheers Steve

110 rides the rough stuff smoother due to the wheelbase, departure angle poorer but not bad and you can hang 2 hammocks in a 110 if u ever fancy some impromtu wild camping :)

Cheers Steve

cheers guys, any pics of a hammock in a 110 :D sounds cool, i do love a hammock

my use for one- winter use in snow etc for work (few hundred miles a week) and just me most of the time, then rest of year just a workhorse to have sat around and for festivals/camping etc and fun , i work festivals and from here we take a mini bus and a load of us and a few motors, this summer i used the discovery and 4 of us with all our gear in no problem and in super comfort, but if i had a 90 then it would be just 2 of us in it and take a few other lads gear fill the back right up and they can go in the bus to save the bus having loads of gear on seats etc , i really like the idea of a roof tent aswell

im not really going to do any real crazy off roading, but il get in to it a bit with a defender i think, how much depends on the condition and cosmetics of the one i end up buying

if its a 110 with 4 side doors and 3 seats behind the cab, as opposed to a big van 110, is the boot still longer than a 90 from behind the seats or the same size ?

also when say just driving myself in winter, does a 110 feel much bigger inside or "too big" , ie just me driving, look over my shoulder theres another row of seats then the boot etc all empty, and generaly feel like a waste and empty ? getting out of work at 3am and it will all feel too cold and big

but a 90 that bit smaller and feel a bit better less waste with just myself in it and heat up a bit better ?

could do with checking out a 110 really, something like this with privacy tinted windows from the rear side doors back, would look cracking i think

Having now owned both, would say a 110 is much better for road use and still very capable off road. I Jumped in my 90 for the first proper journey this morning and its a massive difference to the 110 csw i used to own. Could be down to the disco seats and terrafirma springs in the 90 but it seems so much more bouncy and the rear suspension appears rock solid where the 110 used to drive everywhere with ease taking bumps in its stride although it did have the turning circle of an ocean liner.

The only real time i came unstuck with the 110 was while laning I almost rolled it trying to navigate a downhill rutted trail that was very tight in the trees. The disco I was with almost put his rear side window out, another was saved by his tree sliders and all i can say about the 110 is it was possibly one of the best white knuckle rides i experienced (after i got to the bottom obviously).

Cant compare fuel wise yet but both are genuine defender 200tdi conversions and the 110 used to average around 28mpg but will report back on the 90.

Depending on what you want to do a 110 is fine and the countys do come in really handy with the second row of forward facing seats. If I hadnt received a good offer on my 110 I wouldnt have changed but a friend obviously wanted it more than I did ;)

Wouldnt worry about heat, both will be cold and the mouse fart heaters will only really warm the front row of seats in whichever car you choose. Easily sorted by a night heater if its important though :)

I absolutely love my 110 and I never feel that it is too big or cumbersome. I have driven with all 9 seats occupied and it still drives the same as with just me in it.

The size of he boot space behind the second row seats on a 110 csw is actually 2" shorter than on a 90.

If you put a solid bulkhead up behind the second row seats it makes it warmer in winter and makes it feel more cosy. It all provides extra security. You could change the rear window sides for solid sides to make it more secure. If you look at my profile you'll see my 110 utility station wagon.

Whilst I love my 90, from your intended use for festivals etc. can't help thinking a 110 might serve you better.

Only complaints I've heard from chums with 110s related to supermarket car parks - I just smiled!!!

I shopped for a '90 for months and top of my list was a Tomb Raider. Then I found one locally for sale, took down a couple of mates to go and see it.

Found that there was just NO ROOM in the back and when I came to add an oversized Retriever as well things would get pretty uncomfortable. 90's do have more 'Urban Cool' about them though.

I bought a 110 CSW and love it to bits, and even when I drive alone it still feels like theres two of us

It has been made higher in some way (springs or something) so not only do I avoid supermarkets with small spaces I also have to avoid height restrictions - havent eaten in 3 weeks lol

hmm its food for thought, im so glad i didnt ruch out and buy one a month ago when i started looking

a lot of road driving and at nigt - the urban cool is a factor for the defender choice il admit, well it all depends what i spend, if i spent 2-3k sort of range then obviously it will be a "land rover" that does what it says on the tin and not look amazing, if i spent 5k- then im only going to part with 5k for a defender i LOVE and am happy to hand over 5k, a nice jet black one thats shiney with nice wheels etc, which il checkquer plate and snorkel it and black out windows , for a super urban cool look

ratty- plan is with a 90 is to get a dog guard cage and attach, or make- a ply board cover that sits behing the cab, just for winter, thats covered in carpet, and some other forms of heaters, when coming out of work every night at 3-4am its bloody cold , and just try anything to make it comfy/warm as it can be

im not "overly" fussed about the festival use size wise, as a 90 will stil be super, as we take a mini bus as i said, thats loaded with blokes and loads of bags etc all crammed in, so i can just take 1 pasenger and fill the back with bags not bags and lads, to make more man space in the bus

i really love the idea and super cool factor of rolling up on the campsite, roof tent !!! also for adventures/holidays

but - if the fuel isnt much different (i was expecting the 110 to be a bit more thirsty) then im going to keep options open , but.... primarily its just me in it most of the time so need to think about and put that 1st, sod anyone else, its me and mine and im paying for it, so a 90 is still the prefference i think , all depends what pops up and what captures me !
