Dear LandRover enthousiasts, I have a problem with the brake pedal of our 1999 Defender 110 TD5. De car is in our family for more than 15 years and more than 200.000 kms now. The problem over the last months is that there are heavy fluctuations in the point were the brake pedal engages. Sometimes there is brake pressure right away, sometimes the pedal nearly goes to its bottom point before there is any pressure. Our local garage bleeded the braking system but did not find any air leaks. A Defender specialist replaced the main brake cylinder but the problem still exists. The ABS system was also checked and found in good working order. The specialist suggested that the brake calipers should be replaced, but he was not entirely sure if that would solve the problem. I would be very happy if you could give some advice, maybe someone had the same troubles? Thanks in advance!

Problem solved! Specialist indeed replaced calipers and break pads. The Defender now has good working breakes again. Fit for the next 15 years!
I should imagine they changed the discs too. Badly worn discs, with patches of rust built up, causes the pedal to move up and down a lot. Pleased its sorted for you. 15 years is an extremely long life to get out of a set of discs and pads.
