hi all, im sure this has been up before but conversation about these engines are about as rear as the engines them selfs! i was just wondering is there anyone who does parts for the rover straight 6 engine, ino john craddock do them, but they are soo expensive,is this becuase the parts are not made anymore,or is there anyone else who sells them,as i would like to rebuild with new camshaft and rering and shell,to give the engine a new lease of life,i dont realy wanna do half a job to be honest, its probably a very very long shot ino!

thanks guys,any input much appriciated!

These engines are more related to the old P4 Rover 90/95/100/105 etc.
Try looking up the Rover P4 drivers Guild or association of Rover clubs.
I was involved with them some years ago when I ran a P4 Rover 95, a few specialists were around one in Coventry had good stock then but as I said it was some years ago.

Most of the bits are the same as on the 1600 and 2 litre Series I's

I have just done an engine rebuild on a 6 cylinder Rover 100 P4 using all Series bits!

I happen to have a brand new 6 cylinder camshaft but im in Poland and I have no engine for it might even have a head set as well I know I have a brand new rocker cover so if your interested let me know

I've got one of the beasts too - best policy is to buy anything you see if it's cheap - spares don't come up very often, but the rover p4 dealers / clubs are prob the best hope - though sometimes you can score a bargain on ebay. You can get away with changing some stuff too - I run a 2.25 rad with an electric fan, as the 6 pot one was £300

or a nice rattly diesel swap... :D

Oldseadog - I hadn't heard of s1 engine parts fitting the 6 pot - got any examples? there may be a few saved that way!

cheers

Terry

The 1600 and, I believe the 2 Litre OHISVE engines had the same valves, valve springs, guides, oil seals, push rods and rockers as the 6-pot.

The con rod bushes and bearings came from John Craddock, and the pistons were direct from AE Pistons (formerly Hepolite), as they still had some in stock.

The crank was reground locally by a friend with a machine shop.

All of the oil seals are standard, readily available parts.

Crank bearings, oil seals and timing chain are standard from BSL.

Some gaskets had to be made from scratch, although that's relatively easy, but can be time consuming!

well thankyou very much for all of your input guys, you have actuly helped alot in the way of finding parts, and yes i will be interested in the camshaft when i have some spare cash to hand cj2a,thankyou very much! if i have the change to have it off of you i will get in touch!i have been looking at john craddocks website,as my exhaust manifold was cracked completely in half and i tryed saving it but it didnt realy work! and they are nooot cheap! :jaw: however i have found out the core plug size for future refrance people, they are 48mm,as i got hold of a 50mm and it did not fit! all of the head gaskets and tiing chains and simple things like that seem okay to get hold of! thankyou very much people for your input,it has helped alot! i cant wait to get this old girl back on the road! :D

I've just bought a sIII with same engine. Water pumps gone. £105 for a reconditioned one. After seeing the prices of other engine parts if anything breaks it will be getting a tdi in for sure. Hopefully it won't as I want to keep it original.

water pump is dependant on which one is it is running - you can get a kit, but it's the only kit around and if you are running the other sort of pump the job involves machining the bearing shaft, pressing parts on and off etc etc - I had it done, was a nightmare, expensive and failed on me a month later - would of been cheaper to bite the bullet and pay over £100 for the one that was on ebay

can't find the post, but there was a number for a mob birmingham way that re-con water pumps

cheers!
