Troops,
To cut a long story short, after complete engine failure at the roadside, a tow, major inconvenience and heartache,
I traced a fault back to the rotor arm, I just dont get it???
It was a relatively new part (only months old) from Halfrauds. It was replaced as a precautionary measure the day before the MOT. It was the last thing I expected. Checked the fuses, fuel pump, leads dizzy cap, coil, which left the rotor arm
I always carry a spare distributor cap in the boot, these are prone to centre contact disintegration, corroded terminals, but never had a prob with a rotor arm.
I checked the rotor arm with a multimeter, 600 ohms, picked up a brand new one from the motor factors, 670 ohms
I asked some of the boys on MG-Rover.org
Apparently it is a known fault with them, first I have had an issue with it, even since old school mini days of dizzy caps and rotor arms.
Some of the MG boys have removed the original resistor and soldered in a better one, dont know any details yet
So one more part for the stowage box
Barsteward Halfrauds!!!!
