Hi All,

I think i may have a fuel tank breather problem, when the engine has been run for around 10mins there is a smell of petrol from around the back seat area, guess coming from fuel pump access panel. When you remove fuel filler cap there is a huge hissing as air enters the tank and you can hear the tank under the back seats creaking back into shape, so guess the tank breather is not working properly and a vacuum is building in the tank, I know this 1.8k petrol has the carbon filter unit under the bonnet and have removed the breather pipe from it and still vac in tank, I have found near the fuel pump the breather with a inline valve in it i think this maybe sticking/stuck but I cannot find any info on this valve or what it does. Anyone know what this valve is/does or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Mine does the hissing of air when I remove the filler cap (1.8 petrol) as does my MG TF, might be worth checking your fuel pump seal and the pipe connections to it under the rear seat.
