Hey guys,
I'm looking for a scanner to read my 05 td4 freelander with the Bosch ecu. I'm not sure if any obd2 scanner will work I brought one of those elm327 bluetooth scanners with no luck to be fair I'd of Probs wanted something that's a bit more in depth with the detail.... any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Just had to trade in my l series as the fuel injection pump had gone along with a few more problems arising that motor wasn't obd2. Am I even correct that 05 td4 is obd2 compatible ?

I also tried a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner on my 05 TD4 Freelander and couldn’t get it working. I’ve used a Britpart Lynx on a TD5 Disco 2 and found it to be very helpful – it was able to solve the three amigos problem I encountered (left rear sensor), and can do a lot such as scan & clear errors, power bleed the brakes using the ABS pump, read all the engine sensors, and even open the fuel hatch. Unfortunately, it’s coverage on the Freelander 1 isn’t too good and the Hawkeye’s coverage is identical. I haven’t tried it, but the Faultmate seems to be the best choice although expensive. Black Box has a lot of detailed information on their site.

Are you sure the lynx is identical to the Hawkeye? How do you know this?

It was inaccurate to say the Lynx and Hawkeye had identical coverage. Checking now, I see a few differences but the documentation isn’t very detailed. Both seem to lack (on later Freelander 1s) helpful features like programming new keys or power bleeding the brakes.

Hawkeye should do keys and fobs. I've done fobs but not keys so far.

Test book (T4) is the best which is main dealer kit and eggspensive. Hawkeye is made by the same peeps and probably the best we have for diy, but a little costly. It will do all computers like engine/auto/abs etc. There's others like the i930 etc but not many have reported back on them. They don't do as much as they quote sometimes. But it's early days. A cheap elm 327 scanner will find codes and the basics. In general you pay for what you get. Depends on what you want and the use you will get.
