When i pull the front half shaft out.. will it drop a ton of oil or will i get away with jacking high on one side?
I don't want to be nobbing around with the fill plug just now if i can help it

My bad, 13.6 I think, it's difficult getting my drop tester to the battery, it seems I have to dismantle half the car to change the battery on this one! i'll try the jump lea to the engine if I can fond a metal part on the engine, everything is hidden on these cars. I had a similar problem on a previous voguse, an additional earth strap sorted it. anyway, I've got home start recovery coming over to see if it's a simple fix. I've got no reason to think it's a starter failure as such. I can't measure the voltage drop when starting because it won't start. Voltage drop after test was still in the green bit, I'll double check in a while.

The other problem, not so important, I had the heater valve replaced a few weeks ago, got the aircon re-gassed. Heating now works as it should, aircon takes quite a while to blow cold air into the car, just very hot air when it's been in the sun all day. Driving along, it takes about 3 miles to blow cold. Any ideas on that one?

Takes a while for the aircon to get down to temperature. Hotter it is the longer it takes.

I know what that feels like!! Having lost the tab washers for the camshaft timing gear on my 1952 AEC coach, and having tried 6 time today to get the timing spot-on...uuurgh. Otherwise listening to the local Spitfires flying around and hopefully not crash-landing like on did yesterday, and watching the robins build their nests in our workshop, the Range rover has been a Very Naughty Car, needs a new starter so I'm told.

Heater valve probably has no connection to your AC issue.

Ours (black car) it also blows hot at first but will be blowing cold within a min, have you tried to push the AC max button?

Did they give it enough gas?
We had an expansion valve (they called it low pressure valve) issue a few years ago where it would blow cold then hot for a while.

I've done that on the 110 and the 38 with no oil loss, couple of drips clinging to the shaft at worst, a rag on the floor and another to wipe the shaft as you withdraw it if your drive is nice.
