Seen a series for sale that has a 2.5 td and 5 speed box in it coupled up to the series axles. Do I recall that series front axles don't take kindly to running about in 4wd on the road? Would this set up give any headaches? If so, would fitting RR diffs front an rear reduce any problems (assuming their is enough power with that gearing)?
Cheers

If the front axle was from a stage 1 V8 it wouldn't be a problem .
nor would having a 5 speed box to a series transfer box(adaptor being used)RR diffs will only increase the gearing. It's lack of CV joints that is the problem.

Cheers groenendael
Might be best avoided then. Looks to have the defender type high/low/diff lock little lever and no sign of the red and yellow knobs. Was the stage 1 v8 axle the same width as a standard one? Just trying to guess what axle is fitted from the photo graph. It's a late 2a LWB so I guess it might have sailsbury on the rear?

The Stage One V8 was a Series 111 and came in to being about 1979,and was permanent 4WD (same as RR)The axles were similiar in width because you didn't need eye brows on the wheel arches. The V8 engine was detuned .Your best bet is a search unless someones got their finger on the pulse.Sorry but thats all I know. Hope it's of some use.Just had a thought try Dunsfold(DLR) their very knowlegable and helpful.
