New battery now in. Key out, drivers door open, Battery out, Key in & turn to position II (ign) new battery in Barke pump starts Warning beeps for windows etc. NO ALARM. Key to start - "engine impobilised", release key "Start engine" Key to start, engine starts. Brilliant Switches & buttons all...

Thank you SpudH. That gives me the confidence to press on. I have decided to replace the battery whilst I am about it. Probably fit it on Monday.

Thanks Derek, I think the sounder is self powered & will go off anyway. I have read that with the door open & key in positionII I might be ok. Battery is now off - going back on later today.

P38,2001,4.6 vogue (with satnav),56000 miles I wonder if anyone out there can help me. I want to disconnect my battery to clean up some of those connections & hopefully restore the steering wheel buttons to their normal function. ( sometimes they sound the horn instead of the inteded action)...

Neither do mine. In fact most of them don't do anything!

The antenna on my 2001 4.6 vogue is under the plastic cover between the drivers side windscreen and the bonnet.

Thanks all. These wheels are about 75mm in diameter secured to the "cone" of the diff with a bolt through the centre. one on the front & one on the rear. Sorry no pics today-pouring with rain. They may well be balance weights. Balancing what? You must realise by now that I am not an engineer...

Morning everybody. Can anyone explain the purpose of the cast iron "wheels" mounted in the input sode of the diff cases please.

Had a heck of a job getting mine out until I pushed the radio "in" quite firmly at the same time as inserting the removal tools. I heard the latching prongs spring free and the radio almost fell out.

Thanks very much clutchdust. Looks like I will have to take it all apart & have peep in there. One of those buttons causes the horn to sound every time so something must have got crossed up.

Thanks very much garioch43, I will keep using the buttons & see if it clears. Does anybody know if the sw buttons link directly to the radio head or do they go via a computer or fuse box somewhere?

Been playing with the controls on my recently acquired 4.6 vogue & have a proble with the steering wheel buttons. The cruise control works fine, but... The volume buttons on the R/H side do nothing. The mode button on the L/H side does nothing, of the other 2 buttons on the L/H side the top one...
