Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

It's got new ATF in now so would just be going from new ATF to new MTF. Hoping it will solve the problem for a while.

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

I'm running it with ATF at the mo, don't suppose MTF94 would make any difference to this in the short term?

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

Not got to it just yet, but I noticed today if I double declutch I can change straight to down to 4th without bumping 3rd. I assume this makes no difference to the diagnosis? Just checking on the off.

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

Oh god! How will I know which the problem is with? Can this be done without the air/battery gun? I assume it just makes it easier.

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

I think, between a couple of mates, I can get my hands on most of those tools... not sure about the air/battery gun but will see. this will be the third time at it so I'm going for a record time getting the box out and back in and wish me luck with stripping down the box! Thanks for the advice!

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

Seeing as I still have the original box I might have a go at stripping that down as a practice. What out of the ordinary tools will I likely need to find?

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

Can hear the click. I think it's the baulk ring as you said. That really sucks! This was the second time the box has been out and back in in about 3 weeks. I suppose its not an easy job to replace the baulk ring?

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

When you say run in, it's not a new/recon box just a used replacement so it wouldn't need running in, would it? Stick bias, as in the springs? Still learning sorry. Edit: ah ok, ill have a lidten now.

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

I don't remember any grub screw. Where should I be looking? It changed fine with the engine off and I've not noticed any click but not listened yet either. What do you mean by when the block comes off too? Sorry.

Replacement box in and now 5th to 4th is blocking

So I just replaced the gearbox in my Disco 300tdi. Everything seemed just find initially and now I've taken her for a long run 5th to 4th is blocking, only allowing a change to 4th if I nudge 3rd first. Is there a fix of some sort other than ANOTHER new box or rebuild? Really don't...

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

The 2x4 and a small pulley worked wonders! New box is in, and to my delight changes smoothly with no crunching! Unfortunately I now have to sell her for something economical :(

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

Might have to use a 2x4 instead of a scaffold pole but I like your thinking!

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

Yeah they are heavy..and awkward! Unfortunately the jacks we have don't go high enough so it was a case of jack it with one then add another jack with wood/bricks under it... lift again and repeat etc. A right pain!

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

Well I got a second hand box on ebay and it seems OK. Not much play in the main shaft, unlike the original, no grinding sound when you turn the shaft as there is with the original. The old box is out, dismantled, and the new box has been assembled with the gear lever unit and transfer box...

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

I'm more on the side of this comment... had a look at a a guide for rebuilding a gearbox and tbh, it scared me!

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

Ah thanks munkey but mine is a 300tdi.. so different gearbox isn't it? :( Well it looks like I'll be searching for a decent used box then!

Will a recon gearbox add value to the disco?

The disco needs a new gearbox and a new/recon box will cost around £500. I'm looking to sell it now as I need a car with good economy so what I wan't to know is will it be worth getting a new/recon box on her then selling? i.e. will I make a better profit doing this or should I just stick a...

I was really hoping it wouldn't be a rebuild! I guess it'll add value to it on the plus side.

    Gearbox or clutch

Hi guys, I have a 300tdi Disco with clutch/gearbox issues. I've had a crappy 2nd gear since buying it but with careful changing it's fine. Recently it's got a little worse, then the clutch release arm broke at the start of one of the forks. Replaced that and it drives... after a week...

    Blown Head gasket advice

He did the right thing telling me the head gasket had blown big time??? On that statement I went about getting the HG done. It's not like he knew the oil was cooked as he checked absolutely sod all. Lost coolant due to the plastic thermostat cap breaking and airlocked because the guy didn't...
