Well I wasn't sure how to take it out that way as I got shown from behind the ball (with the 12point nuts). But now that you mention it mate there was abit of play on the longer shaft where it goes inside the hub, but it was turning the shaft but not very smoothly like the smaller shaft...

Thanks James, I've already tried all of the above tho,so might take the diff cover off tomorrow and have a look in there ,I've already drained the oil and cannot see anything in it, ie bits of metal.

When I had the shafts out I could turn the front prop and see the cog that turns the shafts spinning however when I put the half shafts back on the prop won't turn the hubs.i would suspect that it's the shaft that's in the hub on one side but i can't see why neither wheel turns the prop.

Hi, Not that this helps but I think I have the same problem. But I don't think that it is anything to do with the clutch as in diff lock it's fine. When you are in normal hi box with engine running and in gear does your front Prop shaft spin?

I have took the whole thing off from the bolts behind the big ball, then pull the whole unit away with shafts attached to it. But just took the smaller half shaft out and there's nothing wrong with that either!rrrr rather annoying. Do you have any idea on what to look for next? Thanks

Just took both half shafts out and they were as good as new. Can anyone help me with what to next to try to identify what is wrong? I may be wrong but presume its something to do the diff.cheers

Haha don't we all. :rolly: Just spend all morning taking the longer half shaft out......and it's fine, typical, so going to have a bite to eat then get the shorter one out.and I better find a broken half shaft! it's a strait forward job but I think that's someone's having me on and...

Yeh it's a genuine 200tdi,and to be honest can't remember but it's the front anyway.not sure if it's the longer half shaft or shorter one yet but suppose it would make more sence if it was the longer as that will have more strain on it.

Ahh yes I get you, and just had a look with a mate who had the same problem and his was the half shaft but I'll take it out tomorrow and think I'll start with the longer side first as I can't tell which side it is. Thanks for help
