    rubbing drums

Hi Garyrigden. If the scoring is all around the back plate then the drum could be too wide, but if the scoring is only at the top of the backplate, perhaps the wheel bearings have play.(Its only a suggestion). The 1st is the most likely as the old drum did not rub. Kind regards, Allan from LEGS.

    110 gearbox

To Landrover11019. The R380 or the santana wont go straight in without a fight! Unless you have a retro fit short bell housing and front input shaft for the R380. You will have to move your engine forward to get the gear lever in the correct position (if its a defender R380). If its a Disco...

    rubbing drums

Hi Garyrigden. Are you sure it is not the edge of the shoe touching the sloping ridge inside the drum? Perhaps it has not been machined out properly. A common fault with pattern parts. Some are good but some can be rubbish. Kind regards, Allan from LEGS.

    2.5 N/A engine in a SIII

Hi Andy. The 2.5 TD will go straight on the gearbox and mountings.Just use the 4 speed clutch plate. Its a bit tight Turbo and exhaust wise by the chassis but all fits. Remember to use the bigger bore 90 exhaust as the series exhaust is small diameter. Kind regards, Allan from LEGS.

    96/TDI engine problems

Hi Matt. Its difficult to check if a lift pump is serviceable or worn, but for the sake of approx £20.00 and if your car has done a fair mileage, it would probably benefit from a new one. Regards, Allan from LEGS

    300TDI Cam Belt!!

Hi Jason2. My advice is when you do your cam belt also do the "P" gasket which is leaking. If you dont, one day you will be driving along and your heater will start blowing cold, which means the water has gone and damage has already ocurred in your engine. Cam belt kits consist of idler bearing...

    96/TDI engine problems

Hi Matt. The lift pumps have been known to generate air and cause those symptoms. It may be worth checking the lift pump and connections first as these are relatively inexpensive compared with the injector pump. Kind regards, Allan from LEGS.

    Transmission Box

HI 1DAYMAYBE. The transferbox is also known as an IRD unit. The viscous is situated on the rear propshaft and acts as a differential between the front and rear. They tend to tighten up and put stress on the next component in line such as the transferbox or the rear diff. Its worth the £250.00...

    90 Questions

Dear Steve52, If the gears are working OK then it may live a little longer by adjusting the bias springs on the remote (at the bottom of the gear lever. Check that the aluminium housing is not worn where the gear lever pegs protrude as putting a new one on will make a load of difference. Kind...

    Transmission Box

To 1daymaybe, Just watch the viscous coupling on the propshaft as these are prone to tighten up, knocking out the transfer box or the rear diff. If it is faulty and you dont replace it, the same thing can happen again to your new units. Regards, Allan from LEGS.

    TD5 Head Gasket replacment

Dear Disco 11. It all depends on the machine shop if they would bother. YES, they should bother. You should therefore go back to your garage for your cam bearings. We have facilities to measure if the head is servicable, but this is where experience plays a big part. Lets not loose sight of...

    TD5 Head Gasket replacment

Dear Disco 11. Thanks for the reply. This could take longer than the fox hunting debate! We are merely discussing the merits of re-machining or binning the head and using a new, expensive unit. It all depends on how severe your warp in the head is. The manufacturers steer us away from...

    Hi, I'm Allan from LEGS.

Hi Grunt. Thanks for the contact. We prefer, where possible to fit genuine or O.E. parts when rebuilding our gearboxes. The rings where manufactured all brass or with the "teflon" type coating. The latter being the most prefered. There is a shortage of coated rings at present as with various...

    TD5 Head Gasket replacment

You can skim the TD5 head as with other alloy heads (within safe limits). Rember to ensure you have the later steel locating dowels as opposed to the bendy plastic ones. If you remove the injectors, remember to keep them in exact order. Regards, Allan from LEGS.
