I just put in a new altinator starts ok but still have the wiring problem

when i was driving home last night the headlights kept dimming and the clocks on the dash would go to zero and when i tryed to start it this morning the battery was flat thanks. I charged the battery and when i drove it when I use the brakes it dose the same thing clock neddles go to zero.
