    No start after engine swap

I’m an idiot. Hadn’t fastened the other end of the grounding braid to the block. Just shoot me. Thanks for the tips though, guys! That fault finding section will surely come in handy later on...

    No start after engine swap

So, I’ve got the engine in place and fitted the petrol pump, carburettor, starter motor, solenoid, distributor and a few other bits and pieces. After checking the engine oil level, I took the plunge to see if I could get her to start. The battery was a bit flat, so I hooked up starter cables to...

    Slave cylinder out of position

Sorted. The lowest of the three bell housing studs was pinning the bracket back as far as the assembly would go. The ball joint on the rod to the clutch withdrawal took up most of the movement, the rest was taken up by the bracket itself, which warped a small amount. Removing the slave and...

    Slave cylinder out of position

Yes, that’s the problem. I can’t get it to the right position and secure it to the bell house studs. Question is why. The bracket is off, but since something is preventing it from getting back on, I thought I’d remove the whole assembly to check if the bracket, lever, connecting tube or...

    Slave cylinder out of position

Same cylinder as with previous engine and new engine mounted correctly. I think the slave assembly has been banged around when I was wrestling with the mating of engine and gear box. I bled the cylinder, which loosened everything up a bit, and got the assembly unstuck with a crow bar. It still...

    Slave cylinder out of position

Just swapped engines on my S2A, but the clutch slave cylinder is sitting pushed back from the bell housing a few centimetres, and seems completely stuck. Is it supposed to have this degree of freedom with the bell house bolts out, or is something bent out of shape?

    Diesel/Petrol cylinders

Sorry, had a wee aneurysm - I meant pistons. So, that means that I could leave all the inside bits (pistons, shaft, rods), then?

    Diesel/Petrol cylinders

I have a cracked block on my S2A 2.25 petrol and I (probably) have found a diesel engine with the same block, to swap it out with. How much can I leave in? I am mostly thinking about the cylinders and crank shaft - they ought to be the same when the block is the same - right?

    Engine Block Swap

Thanks for the replies! Connecting rod came loose and punched a big hole in the block. Here’s a picture of it: Bought a replacement engine only to discover a crack in its block when I removed the manifold. Could you dumb this bit down for me, please? How and why would this be done? Is it out...

    Engine Block Swap

Hi all, I need to swap the engine block on my S2A and am looking for a replacement. I am a total beginner to this sort of thing and want to make sure I get it right, starting with finding a replacement that fits (preferably an identical one, to minimise potential confusion...). I have been...
