    Having M51 block checked over

So for the second time in two years the head gasket has gone but with two different heads. I have heard these blocks can develop hairline cracks when aged, can anyone confirm this categorically? Can it be tested if the crack only surfaces when hot? All the while this cyl head was fitted the...

    P38A Glow plug connector corroded

Cera-tec should be used on brakes. Copper grease will do in practice, as you say Wammers, but isn't compatible with ABS components, brake fluid, rubber seals and some wear indicators. It can often, as you rightly said Entropy, create a sticky mess that inhibits pad movement. I think red...

It's true. Not to be used on brakes though. They have their own lube.

How not to: Propshaft balance weight replacement

Good thinking and nice work. I'm going to search YouTube for clips of over-spun balance weights flying off now. I wonder what damage they'll do

So say if you leave the collet in place when replacing the ball joints it'll stay centered. Worked for me so far (1000miles). You get 3 tries before the yokes are written off. Not sure why?

Is My Injection Pump Knackered ?

You can check the fuel stop solenoid at the back of the pump. There needs to be 12v going to it to allow fuel through. If there is then with ignition off run a wire from battery + to the connector on the solenoid while holding it and feel it click open. See here: Image courtesy of RobTD590 (I...

    locking problem

Dry lube won't unstick a siezed lock. Once you use graphite dust then the only lube you can use is graphite dust, else you get bunged up with goo. But if you (and following owners) never use graphite dust then oily lube will do.

    locking problem

Did you have a new blade cut as well or just the fob? I had a key cutters cut me a new blade that wouldn't turn the lock, turns out the new blade was a slightly wider towards the handle and fowled the lock. Trimmed it down and it worked. If not, have you tried some anti seize spray? WD40 like...
