@Extreedoc thank mate. Sounds like a mess to fix. I'll get it into a "taller" then. @Shippers Sorry, diesel. I was playing with the timing a few months ago to try to get rid of a knock, which worked for a while. Maybe I've done more damage than good. Cheers for the reply

Does anyone know what this is in english? I spoke to a Bolivian fella the other day (because he's worked on landies/Santana's all his life) about the horrible noise and dirty black smoke that my old girl is making. I sparked her up for him to listen to the engine and his diagnosis after about...

Series 3 Injectors, before I take them out to overhaul...

I downloaded the parts manual to get part numbers. I should be able to get hem locally with those, or have them ordered in (the steel ones probably). Cheers for your help! Post script: If anyone else needs the part numbers for any reason - steel washers 12H220L, and copper washers 247179

Great thanks. Now to source them. Living in Spain is a pain in the arse sometimes.

Series 3 Injectors, before I take them out to overhaul...

Before I take them out to give them a bit of a treat, what do I need to put them back in regarding washers etc? The manual tells me there are steel sealing washers with a corrugation, and copper washers too. What's that all about?

Series 3 Just bought this, and may need some advice in the near future

Changed a bit. Looks nice enough in this photo. Still a long way to go though.

https://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=19564213 This is another one uploaded by the same user (the fellow with the series lightweight (or probably Santana Ligera) in the videos). It's "proposed" so probably not been driven yet. However, it passes by your house more or less jago. I'm...

    Timing????

I'm back on this (been away working for a few weeks) and getting ready to have a look again tomorrow. I did move it clockwise about 1mm after asking the first time but before I saw the posts from divie and rob1. Time to get the book out tomorrow then.

    Timing????

Bump. Just checking. Turn the unit clockwise to advance and anti-clockwise to retard the timing, yeah? Hope so. I've just this minute turned mine about 2mm clockwise and I haven't got time to muck about putting it the other way before I go out in it...

Series 3 Who can walk me through setting the valves?

@oxides The cork gaskets I have here have a sticky side. Cheers for that

Series 3 Who can walk me through setting the valves?

A 2" Whitworth then, I think. Easier for me to get hold of a 43mm. Cool, cheers. The cranking handle was another option I thought about but my mate who has one is about 100 miles away and we missed our monthly meet-up this week due to me being at the doctors. Ya great big spanner. Good plan...

Back again on this one. What size socket do I need on this start dog to crank it over? It looks huge, but I've got no way to measure it properly

Series 3 Who can walk me through setting the valves?

Yeah, I'll take the cowling off and used a long torque wrench to give me the leverage advantage over the compression of that one cylinder. Cheers. Much appreciated

Series 3 Who can walk me through setting the valves?

Cheers. Not all the plugs come out, there's one that's stuck fast. Best to take the fan off then? or anything else that'll get in my way?

A couple of those will do wonders for your back ;) At the risk of appearing a complete newb/idiot... What's the best way of turning the engine to do these valves? Anyone give me a hint before I start this?

Thank you very much for that James! Being in Spain, getting hold of anything imperial will be a challenge. Equivalent in metric? 0.0??mm?
