    Hammock Mounting

Both visors removed, and the 3 screws around the bracket into which the rear-view mirror fits also removed. The lining doesn't seem to be any loser - is there a place to lever / push it?

    Hammock Mounting

I just removed the mirror (it popped out easily enough), so I can see the metal bracket. Is there a knack to getting the mirror back on again? I can't seem to get it to pop back in. Will have a look at the cover now.

    Hammock Mounting

Yeah - I'm not up to speed on the correct terminology so I tend to waffle imprecisely....:) So is the lining easy to remove?

    Hammock Mounting

See attached pictures. From roughly the middle (in line with the bulkhead) covering the whole of the ceiling of the van, snug up to the window.

    Hammock Mounting

Right, I'd identified the bolts at the rear as one side, but the other side is less easy. Mine has a sort of cover thing at the front, and no easy access to any bolts. There's a place where the sun visors are attached which looks pretty sturdy, but no other obvious attachments.

    Hammock Mounting

I'm going to be away for a few days, and as money's rather tight at the moment, I'm planning to sleep in my 90 hardtop. I'm not very tall (5'7ish), and I reckon a hammock from front to back or corner to corner will easily be big enough for me. My question is: any suggestions for the best...

    Remove spare wheel holder

Super - that sounds pretty much as expected based on my initial investigation. Thank you very much.

    Remove spare wheel holder

Agree. In the end I towed it with a different car, as I didn't have time to do any work on the landy. But when the *FRONT* of the boat was pulled right up to the front of the trailer, there was probably only 9 inches or so clearance from the back of the car, and with the steering wheel fully...

    Remove spare wheel holder

Erm... no, I just got the terminology back-to-front! It's a transom at both ends...

    Remove spare wheel holder

I wanted to tow a boat today, but the positioning of the spare wheel was such that it fouled the stern of the boat. I removed the wheel, but the stern still knocks on the wedge-shaped thing that holds the spare wheel, by a good few inches. The wedge thing (what's the real name?) is held onto...

    Difference between ladders

Yeah that sounds right. The 2 part one is quite a bit more expensive... wondering if it's worth it.

    Difference between ladders

I'm getting the expedition roof rack - I often carry a lot of stuff, and find roof racks to be super-useful. The access ladder looks like a good idea, but I notice there are two sorts, one of which is described a "2 part" one. Anyone got one or the other, and can help me understand the...

    Chequer Plates: what's the point?

I'm in two minds about chequer plates. One one hand, I think they look kinda cool, and certainly for the wing tops, I can see their purpose, as I could anticipate standing on them as I load things onto the roof. What's the general feeling? Worth having? Or a bit of a showy bling gimmick?

New Defender: Station Wagon or Hardtop?

Decision made: hardtop is a commercial vehicle - 100% VAT back. Easy! :D Have located a dealer with a few 2nd hand ones available - will checkout! That takes away the 'bubble' issue - £X per month, and job done.

New Defender: Station Wagon or Hardtop?

Crikey... a quick look on the approved used section of the landrover website shows I can get a 1 yr old equivalent for about £10K less than a new one. Depreciation FTW?!

New Defender: Station Wagon or Hardtop?

I gather that as an optional extra you can get the skylights at the top, and little windows at the top and the back. There's a window in the back, above the spare wheel, so no, not completely enclosed, aiui.

New Defender: Station Wagon or Hardtop?

Hehe - a 110 was on the menu, but we already have an XC90 for the whole family. When we want to take a load of people we use that. I guess a 110 with 1 row of seats might be an option, but I'm not sure how much more expensive that'd be.

New Defender: Station Wagon or Hardtop?

Hello! Brand new member, first ever post (well 2nd!) So as mentioned in my intro post, we're looking into either a new 90 stationwagon or hardtop. Trying to choose between the two. It's a second car - we have 4 children, so need to transport them around, together with all their stuff -...

    Hello from Hampshire

Hello all, My friend recommended this forum, as we're in the process of buying a new(!) Defender. We've been planning to get one for years, but never got round to it, and when we found out that Landrover were going to stop making them, we figured now would be the time to get one, and keep it...
