Viscosity depends where and how you use the car. I'm using fully synthetic 5w-40 for TD4. 5w is for our cold temperatures here in Finland.

It's typical for any car that age when the value is on rock bottom that owners try to avoid every maintenance and repair. For example taking the rear prop off is just a quick and dirty way to avoid replacing drivetrain parts like VCU. It's not a lemon but an old car needing someone to take care...

That is right but the date stamp says nothing about the diameter or tread depth?

I'll use Nodges words here from an other thread to explain why you never want to have more worn (=smaller diameter) tyres on back axle.

Changed to winter tyres, 16" wheels. Gave all locks gun oil treatment, cleaned the tailgate seal and treated it with silicone.

Those look even to me. You can use a coin for example to measure the tread depth. If there are better ones, those go to the back.

Changed the diesel pump and filter. Just to know when they are changed last time. Straightforward job. Someone before my ownership had already snapped both bolts holding the cradle and made new ones. So I didn't have to snap them.. The surface rust in fenders is something that I will take care...

I don't see the point to not put them back. They are there for a reason and relatively easy to take off if needed.

Washed the car and changed engine oil & filter. Mobil Super 3000 5w-40 fully syntethic for these old & high mileage engines.

That's what I tried of course, but it doesn't do anything. Pushing, turning...nothing. Tried searching the manual but not a word about dim function. Mine is 2004 TD4 Sport, European model, lhd.
