Elextrickity finding an odd way to go, check lamp holders for corrosion, earth connections for both lamps. You may think they are wired right but check again.

Recently overhauled my series 3 box that was jumping out of 2nd and then lost reverse. Finally got it back in truck and drove it for the first time last month, gear throws notably shorter and tighter now it is back as it should be.

Noted on another thread that it is just bad manners some do not come back with a finish, annoying in the least.

The calipers I used for my 1990 Ninety came from a rotted out Defender 200tdi and fitted straight on with the original discs. Land rover fitted all models of Defender tdi with the larger calipers when the more powerful engine was introduced. Ones to avoid are those for vented discs which are wider.

If his truck is still fitted with the original early Ninety size calipers/pads he could fit the later larger so called "One Ten" calipers/pads. [ done this on mine] This is just a nut and bolt job and while it likely will not cure the problem will extend the time between pad changes...

For wipers that are slow getting going and wipe, problem often is the issue of partial seizing of the spindle axle where it passes into the bulkhead. Another issue can be the lower bush in the wiper motor can going dry. Pull the little rubber caps behind wiper arm up a bit and oil shaft.

As it is a daily driver a regular check/service at certain mileages is better. A good section of the Haynes manual is the regular 6k and 12k checks. There is also a yearly pre MOT section.

With the engine running [ little bit on the throttle] a good alternator will give 14v or there about on your volt meter.

Hope you did not over tighten the steering box adjuster. Adjustment has to be done only with wheels/pump arm set straight ahead and allan key bolt only turned until contact just felt. Any slack with wheels turned to be ignored.

The only thing I recognize is the rear wash/wipe switch. Any chance you can talk to previous owner about what is what?

Some very late production Series 2a had a full syncro box but they were suffix D. Given the position of suffix on the transfer box it is a series 3 box. [2's had it on the actual gearbox] @steve2286w series 3 have clutch housing on the left. "steamwally" has some very good videos series box...

Start with the easy stuff, check HT lead connections at cap and plugs. Check 12v connections at coil and distributor. Clean check sparkplug gap.
