I have an intermittent misfire on my 2.5 petrol 90, only at low revs under load. It clears at speed. Any ideas please.
 
Start with the easy stuff, check HT lead connections at cap and plugs. Check 12v connections at coil and distributor. Clean check sparkplug gap.
 
I am not an expert on petrol (give me old diesel any day!) let alone land rover ones, but I am learning as my MGA currently doesn't run. Have you done the basic things like cleaned the points, checked HT leads and spark plugs, checked the power feed to the coil etc?

Is it definitely only happening when underload? If so, again not an expert, wouldn't that be more to do with fuelling than the electrical side, as electrics should not change when under load or not. Happy to be corrected, I might learn something as well!
 
I had the same with the 2.5 petrol in my old series 3. I stripped and rebuilt the carb which cured it for a bit but ended up fitting a new genuine Webber carb which cured it. I never found out which part was to blame.

Run it, with the bonnet up in the dark, any arcing will be easier to see ...

Do NOT reach and grab at the arcing area with an un-gloved hand while leaning against the bodywork ... ask me how I know ... :oops:
 
Check that the rotor arm is working well, and that the governor springs and weights are doing their thing ... if anything is off, it may pay to go for electronic ignition swap ...
