    Odd compression...

Thanks for the super fast replies (this forum is lightning!). Thanks Wammers, I wet tested the two low reading cylinders and the reading didn't change. Thanks also jamesmartin, I'll just drive it then? Re-check the compression at a later date? What sort of timescale/how many miles do you think...

    Odd compression...

Thanks for the reply. New cam and tappets, pushrods, rocker assemblies and valve springs. The valves themselves were good so didn't replace them or their guides. Also had the heads skimmed. New rings, new bearings including cam bearings. Had the block cleaned and the bores checked and honed at...

    Odd compression...

Hi all, hope I can get your thoughts on this. I have a 1989 RRC 3.5 Efi (flapper). Recently rebuilt the engine and she runs rough from cold (lumpy, low RPM), once warm she's much smoother but still not as smooth as I'd like, not perfect. I did a compression test, dry test with engine warm and...

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

Sorry, of course, early heads. A 3.9 inlet with fuel rail and injectors would be ideal to use with megasquirt though, if he takes that route.

Or get a 3.9 inlet manifold off eblag...

need ur help pulling my hair out.please

3.5 V8 Flapper system Diagnostic Manual - Land Rover Technical Archive - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum Work through that. I did on mine ('89 flapper). You can check absolutely everything fuel system wise. Should help get to get to the bottom of it.

Could this be my way to owning a Range Rover Sport, or just a can of worms

From the photos it's sitting on his drive. It looks like it's been bought from a scrapper (yellow marker on the rear window). He's either realised he's in far deeper than anticipated or he's found something seriously wrong. He'll spout whatever BS necessary to put a buyers mind at ease and flog...

    viscous fan spanner

I've only ever used an adjustable on mine. Never failed yet or damaged the nut. Sorry I can't answer more accurately!

well its out and now in!!

Yeah them, really nice job. Much better looking than the plastic sill things on my '89 4 door. Don't suppose you could take some closer pics of them so I could see more detail?

well its out and now in!!

Really great job mate. Where did you get your sills? Are they plastic or metal? Sorry if you've already been over it. They look bloody lovely.

    sump plug

:D exactly.... Some jobs just need you to crawl under the car with your socket set and try a few until you find the right one... ...in the time it takes to fire up a laptop and type a question! :D

Who can do a EFI conversion for me..

2nd that. Thoroughly nice bloke. Plus if you go round to his place you get to look at his absolute beast of a 90 with a monster under the bonnet! That's not innuendo by the way, his truck is quite brilliant...

    V8 using water

I did yes, they were 2nd hand off ebay so I wanted to pressure test them first before getting them skimmed.

    V8 using water

Definitely agree with all that. Don't scrimp on the head gaskets! Or indeed any gaskets. From my bitter experience I recommend tracking down some Elring ones for the heads.

    V8 using water

You can test your heads yourself, I'm sure someone will be along to shoot me down but I did it. I bought a cheap bike inner tube from asda, cut the valve bit off along with enough rubber to seal over a water port on the head. I used a bit more of the rubber from the rest of the tube for the...

    fuel pump replacement

Good point Pete. I forgot about the tow bar assembly. I ground off the nuts/bolts holding the towbar on and got it out of the way. They're easy to reach and not many of them. Got some new ones and that was another good job done. Just thinking cutting four easy to reach bolts off is easier than...

    fuel pump replacement

No. Mine's '89 with no hatch. Don't know what all the fuss is about over dropping the fuel tank anyway. Surely four bolts and a few jubilee clips is easier than making hatches and cutting through floors?!? Renew the jubilee clips and give the tank a lick of paint while it's off, make a...

    Surging idle only when warm...

Don't think you have a 'missing' pipe. Mine's the same (1989 3.5 Efi). Two sort of metal pipes coming from the vac advance on the distributor, one of which goes into a vacuum pipe and up to the plenum, the other just goes to nothing, like yours. Good luck with it. Have you downloaded the...

Land Rover Discovery 3.9 V8 leaking!

It could be anything from the valley gasket to the sump gasket including anything in between. Is it just losing oil externally or are you burning it as well? To find a leak there's no easy option other than to clean all the oily grime off the engine and then see where it's leaking from when...
