    Prop shafts

I had to get the dremel on the prop nuts at the rear diff end. Fancy tool, mallets and sockets were having none of it. I bought new front and rear props - Hardy Spicers if I remember correctly and reasonable priced. The front has a wiper boot on it which will save having to replace the...

Series 3 Time to change to the canvas

Took mine off last year b myself. It was very heavy - thick side windows and alpine roof glass. I unbolted the roof from the sides and slid the top off - foam and sheets on the floor as it was nicely painted. The sides were then easily removed by hand. It's been easier to store in bits too -...

    Beaulieu

Sounds like a good day out, I might try and get to it next year.

    Series 3 clutch slave recommendations

I thought TRW is OEM. I've used their clutch master, slave and brake pistons and they have all been good. However, although I use mine very little in the winter, I always make a point of just driving 4-5 miles as a minimum every fortnight to avoid corroding brake parts etc. It's surprising in...

    Beaulieu

I'd try to stick with walkie-talkies as long as you can...my two girls (15 & 12) progressed on to iPhones and they probably cost me more than the Land Rover to run! I sent off my self addressed envelopes for Tilford a couple of weeks back. I enjoyed last years event there, it's one of my...

Series 3 Starting Series 3 diesel that has sat for a couple of months?

Kept in a garage, I can't see why you shouldn't just start it up. I'd only be concerned if it had stood for a couple of years outside. I guess there are people who work overseas or in the forces who return home regularly having left their vehicles unused for long periods.

    Roof

I agree - limestone (cream) roof panel, limestone wheels, the rest green

    Beaulieu

Never been to the Land Rover event but visited the museum a couple of times - definitely worth £10 for the museum alone so you probably can't go wrong. I saw your Land Rover at the Basingstoke Festival of Transport, your lad was happily playing in the back but I couldn't see you around at the time.

    Which Colour??

Light grey or the light green are my favourites

Best place to buy a bulkhead from

I bought my bulkhead from Ashtree going back 5-6 years now. It was an exchange bulkhead and they supplied it very quickly and earlier than they originally stated. I seem to think it was just over 4 weeks if I remember correctly. No hint of any rust on mine although it's only a weekend vehicle...

Mine doesn't either. There is only a shim/ gasket where the hinge fits to the bulkhead pillar.

How NOT to roller paint a lightweight! Good for a laugh!

Nice colour. Live with it a bit and let the paint harden. You can always repaint if you really don't like it.

Price others have paid for resto?

Yes, British motor museum. You also see the original build spec and the dealer to which it was dispatched to. £45 sounds about right; not cheap but a nice for the history file if you’re restoring it.

Price others have paid for resto?

I got a heritage certificate / report on mine which is also a March 1981 registered vehicle. I found that the build certificate confirms that it was actually built on Nov 1980 so I can apply for tax free status earlier with that. Might be worth a check.

    Series 3 1982 Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol

I bought my door bottoms from SP Landrover parts. Fit well and quality seems fine. I bought aluminium door tops from Rocky Mountain. These are really nice quality, don't rust but pricey

    Refurbing steering wheel

My steering wheel went sticky in warm weather. I gently rubbed my steering wheel back, spray painted with a gloss acrylic black spray paint and then sprayed it with a couple of coats of clear acrylic lacquer. Really came up like new and still looks good 2-3 years on

    Radiator panel fitment

There should be rubber bushes / spacers where the rad panel bolts to the chassis. Surprisingly quite thin ones but they are supposed to reduce vibration etc.

Was that a wasps nest in the radiator? Looking forward to seeing progress. :)
