I've never stripped a Landy water pump, but if they are the same as pretty well every other British water pump of that era, the front graphite seal has met it's maker and it's time for a new water pump.

I've now had a better look at the chassis number and what I thought was an effort to erase the existing number now looks more like corrosion pitting...... maybe it actually is the original...but short of forensic techniques or x-ray I don't think anyone could ever really tell. Thanks people.

Aha - it seems that ECO2 is a water dispersant/oil mix, and that it was sprayed inside and out with it in November 89.....

Result! It's a 3 bearing. Can anyone tell me why the rocker cover has:- PRESERVED ECO2-11-89 written on it?
