Apols if this is a duplicate post - weird stuff has been happening.....

My S3 is up for MOT ASAP - the cab & underbonnet plates agree with the V5; the chassis was replaced by PO and has the number obscured - it looks like someone has used a descaler to blat it out.

What are the implications? I know not.

Just make sure the mot station can't read any of it, worst case, could have been rebuilt on a dodgy chassis. Vehicle ID is taken from the chassis.

If chassis don't match V5 all kinds of **** can kick in. Get it sorted before any official bodies look at it.

So what's the score when a new chassis - galvanised, for example, is fitted?

What happens then?

Not many series still have a chassis number once the dumb irons have been changed.
When Nitemare fitted mine he gave me the old dumb iron with the number on it, I passed it to the new owner when I sold it. He most likely put it in a skip....

As it's a brand new chassis and not one with a "previous life" you can leave it blank OR ask Richards chassis at the time of purchase and provide them with proof of your chassis number and they will stamp it for you AND notate your receipt with your chassis number.
All nice and legit with a paper trail to prove it.

All the more reason the chop off the dumb irons off any chassis you remove to fit a nice shiny galvy one....
Two vehicles running around on the same chassis number ain't good news ;-)

Have galvanised chassis on mine after lots of web searching settled for not stamping it and I keep the receipt for purchase from Marsland with the V5.
Going to add my post code to chassis in a few places and might put registration number on it also in case of theft.

I've now had a better look at the chassis number and what I thought was an effort to erase the existing number now looks more like corrosion pitting...... maybe it actually is the original...but short of forensic techniques or x-ray I don't think anyone could ever really tell.
Thanks people.
