bfg muds VS cooper STT for mileage/longevity - yes another fecking tyre thread! :)

£340 is pretty cheap too - where on earth are you seeing that price?

That's interesting JF - how come the others failed earlier than the 50K one - Punctures etc? again 50 thou is pretty respectable, though if the others all wore out at 20K then maybe not so good! :D I just found a new cooper stt model, the STT Pro M/T, and it's pretty damn cheap here...

    Axles etc

I would email bilt hamber for their advice - the owner (Peter Hamber I think) often handles queries and the company are very helpful and knowledgeable, plus they're British. I've heard very good things of POR15, but the prep seems a little fussy and they're American, so ...bleh. :p

50k! Not bad at all! What sort of driving was that?

Have a look at the bilt hamber paint range. You can rust treat with hydrate 80, or fertan (my fave) then use electrox (very high zinc, like cold galvanising) and then epoxy mastic as the top coat to give a bullet proof painted topcoat. I've used bonda zinc primer in the past and it's good, but...

I've had a bit of a search and can't find a great deal, but I will need to replace my insa turbo traction tracks at some point soon, and I don't think I've had very good mileage out of them - 12-18k or so. But they've been very good around the fields where I shoot, so no complaints especially...

Rust prevention - last word please

I've not used POR15 before but it does have a good rep. I did read up on it a while back and the prep needed for it seems a lot of work. I would be inclined towards the bilt hamber epoxy mastic though - as said earlier, if it's bilt hamber then it's going to be superb.

Spot on GF :) I've not tried the hydrate 80, though I've heard good things about it, as well as a couple of less good reviews, so I'm not sure on it until I've tried it. I found the aerosol cans last really well too, just make sure you clear the nozzle when you're done or it means a lot of faff...

And dinitrol is very good, but I've found the BH dynax stuff to be even better, plus it's a far less confusing range!

My mini is an 89 - you know, a proper one not the german crap that is raping our motoring heritage. ...not that I have an opinion! :D I use Dynax S-50 and UB - both by bilt hamber who are a brit company. Search LZ for 'dynax salt spray test' and I'm sure you'll stumble over the link somewhere...

On my mini I've got lots of peeling waxoyl that has gone rubbery and creates a lovely additional water trap - as if a mini needs any more - so I think I'll stick with using something that doesn't introduce extra problems thanks! :)

Search for dynax s-50. even better than Dinitrol, and there's uni study about lots of different waxes where the bilt hamber s-50 comes out on top. Don't use waxoyl for gods sake! :)

I can see why Julian! No doubt you'll get a few requests - very tidy work there ;)

Just called up for a quote on galvanising a bulkhead...

He apparently did, but it went unnoticed or something? Or maybe he didn't want to push his business openly on the forum to avoid offence.. It's a bit of a drive for me, but does make me want to get a few LR things sorted!
