    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Did put the call out before... in the depths of Lincolnshire on the backend of nowhere. Had a local "expert" look at my Jag... fooked the ecu and wanted £350 for the pleasure. Bit thin on the ground around here for useful help. Loads of peeps who "specialise" in LR but sometimes they know even...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

I have sync mate which comes up with ecu not talking to becm? Did that last time... bypassed FIP relay and up she started! So I don't think it is a problem with either ecu or becm. The ecu is getting power. I just wonder if a knackered fuse motherboard would cause these symptoms... in theory...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

No hot start chip, I had o one fitted on my last 2.5, binned it and got the fuel pump timed correctly. The previous owner said it did have a power chip? I can't find any evidence of one or the ecu being played with.... bit fooked off with the old girl as she ran sweetly last week.... then...

Yep, power to the glow plug fuse, have taken ecu out and cleaned connections.

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Had a quick fiddle with circuit tester on the under bonnet fuse box... power from battery to fuel pump relay, nothing from ignition side. I bridged the battery/pump connections which worked last time.... glow plug light and engine ran, this time I could hear the tank pump working but no glow...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Here we are again.... stuck new thermostat, waterpump and aircon pulley/belt on her.... went to start and nothing again! Tried previous jump between power and fuel pump on fuse board and nothing, tested for power and nothing! I can only assume the fuse box has given up the ghost, time to get the...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

It is probably due a new fuse box at some point. Don't really fancy trying to split the boards and my soldering skills are questionable.

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Had a fiddle this morning, took out relay etc... she started straight up! Swapped over relays..... she still starts up! I swapped out the relays as the first job thinking this might be the problem, no other faults in the car to show a blown relay so I assumed that wasn't the issue? Maybe...

Ta, will give it a try over the weekend!

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

I haven't touched any of the electronics other than checking all the fuses, unfortunately I don't have any diagnostics for P38. Suppose I could have spiked the ecu when reconnecting the battery after a charge? The old girl has always been a good starter, hot or cold! If I had fuel... she would...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Did check the 80a fuse when I took ecu out for connection cleaning. I did check wiring under drivers side dash as I had fitted a new flap release button and thought I might have disturbed something... looked at the inertia switch... does it need resetting and how if I gave it a kick getting in...

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

No fuel, pump or glow plugs.... cranks and runs on a squirt, suspect ecu not getting power?

    1996 P38 2.5 DSE Non starter!

Hi all! I have been starting and moving the old project P38 around with no problems. Went to move her this week and she doesn't want to start? Good amp battery, not immobilised, cranks OK but no glowplug light on the dash? I have checked the fuses and relays, checked for any broken or chewed...

    Smooth as silk... when warm?

Continuing saga of project FL 1 TD4 facelift with Jatco auto. I bought the car a month a go with a 2/4 brake solenoid issue and F4 limp mode. Took solenoid out and fixed it myself, two weeks of fault free motoring and a few miles under it's belt to see what drops off before the car goes into...

P38A 2.5 diesel- want one but scared!

I have had four P38 petrol and two diesel after moving from Series, Classics and Discos. My current daily is an L322 v8 on lpg which I love! Still had a P38 itch and bought a 2.5 locally with auto on coils a few months a go. I think the only issues unique to the diesels are "hot start" due to a...

    Auto gearbox sump removal.

I removed as little as possible, obviously, engine under tray, n/s plastic wheel arch gearbox cover, turbo intercooler pipe, egr valve pipe, gearbox intercooler mounting bolts, gearbox loom bracket, 2x twist gearbox multi pin connectors and then bungie cord to move coolant pipes out of the way...

    Auto gearbox sump removal.

Hi Jedi, After several hours of cursing and finally getting the sump off, the easy bit was fixing the solenoid..... carefully prise the four retaining crimps away from the connector end of solenoid so that the cap can be removed with a small screw driver, then remove plastic connector cover...

    Auto gearbox sump removal.

Gearbox sorted today, solenoid out and fixed, that was the easy bit.... what an effin' faff getting to the solenoids. If I have to do it again I would take the cooling pipes out, saves so much time and swearing! My theory is that the Freelander 1 was designed by a Lord of The Rings fan who...

    Auto gearbox sump removal.

Thanks Arctic2, same as my L322 for servicing... it's just a bit tight from the side. Don't know why the MG group wouldn't recommend fixing the solenoid?

    Auto gearbox sump removal.

Thanks Jedi, your a star, bit of bedtime reading! So much easier when manufacturers put stuff under the car, my Range Rovers are a doddle compared to the Freelander, can't even get in the bloody thing without bashing my head. My Wife struggled and she is 5'4" mahoosive design fault not having...
