    Scott's Series 2A

I've started on my driver's door pillar, foot, and bulkhead corner replacement now. I've cut out the rot and found the internal stiffener by the upper door hinge has long since rotted away. So I need to make something up to put some strength back in there before welding the new pillar and corner...

    2a restoration..PIC HEAVY!

You're making great progress there Joe. Looking really good. That galvanised chassis is making me consider starting a piggy bank. :D

    hole in new door pillar

They do look deep don't they. I'lll see how it goes. Hopefully the worst case will be some spacers or washers on the wing bolt before it enters the clip on the door pillar. All new to me and learning a lot already. :D

    hole in new door pillar

Any pics of what you've had in the past? This one looks to fit ok so far despite having some concessions to fit Defenders too and some differences in the profile there where the wing bolts on. It's sold as suitable for "Series and Defender" by Bearmach...

    hole in new door pillar

Out of interest, what's the circular hole in replacement door pillars for? It's not there on the one I'm replacing.

Which door seal for new series door pillar with no lip

I like how I'm fixating on the door seal when I've still got to replace the door pillar and bulkhead corner. Having never done it before..:D

Which door seal for new series door pillar with no lip

I've seen a lot of advice to buy official parts because the britpart seals and so on are useless. Some of the original seals I've seen are £20-30 so I really don't want to buy something that doesn't fit. :D I've never fit a seal in my life so I don't know how interchangeable they are or how...

Which door seal for new series door pillar with no lip

There’s no lip on my new pillar so I’d like to use a knock on seal as I’ve heard they’re better. But what do I look for? Do I buy a door seal to fit a defender, or is it called something else? I’ve looked for clip on and knock on seal and so on but see loads of different options. ?

Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

Nice to help out for once. I've been helped so much on these forums myself by others. Good luck! Anything else you need just shout.

Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

IMG_1528 - From the middle of the bulkhead outrigger bolt hole in the new foot to the bottom of the first lower hinge hole in the new pillar is about 11.5cm. I'm doing that by eye but you say yours is about 15mm out so hopefully that's useful to know. IMG_1529 - From the bottom of the new pillar...

Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

    > Do I trust the parts are correct and assume that it all wants lifting? No. Don't assume your britpart pillar is correct and lift everything else to suit it. :) If your rear tub is sat right on the chassis, and the bulkhead outrigger tops are flush with the tops of your chassis rails as they...

Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

If you hold your driver's door up with the curve flush with the rear tub curve and curve in your door pillar, which holes are correct for where your lower hinge would fit.. the holes in your new pillar or the holes in your new foot? On the passenger side.. could PO have had this exact problem...

Which door seal for new series door pillar with no lip

I'm replacing the old door pillar on my 2A 88", which has a lip for the door seal to sit against, with a new pillar that doesn't have that lip. I assume I can't get a new pillar with that lip but if I can it's not too late to switch so let me know if that's the case. If I do have to fit a pilar...

Bulkhead advice. Could someone measure they’re bulkhead for me?

I'm starting a foot and door pillar replacement now on driver's side of my '69 2A 88". I can take some measurements for you with more help about what you need exactly. I have my bulkhead vertical and level now with new and level bulkhead outriggers. You say the lower hinge holes in your new...

    Series 2 New Swivel balls

I don't know what's in your kit but I also fit new axle case oil seals, gaskets, swivel housing seals and retainers, top pins, bottom bearings, and various fixings. I also fit new a steering lock stop bolt and plate, and jack stop while I was there since they were messing and are "meant to be...

    Vertical Bulkhead

Success! I found where these shims go. I do have some here and there but not everywhere the S3 book shows. Loosening all those fixings to properly separate the driver's footwell from the chassis and steering bracket got me the movement I needed to set the door gaps right then with a bit of to...

    Vertical Bulkhead

Cheers. Not the first time you've sent me to the S3 parts book about my late 2A. I should get the message. :) So there are three different shims and packing pieces on this side, I'll have a closer look today and see what I've got and what might help to have more of. It's had some bad repairs...

    Vertical Bulkhead

The title of this thread is perfect for what I'm doing and I have a question for @Blackburn about his last comment.. :) Are these spacers between the chassis bracket and the front (vertical) face of the footwell (which I can't find in the parts book), or the shim washers listed as part 106 'as...

    Scott's Series 2A

Started on the next job at lunchtime. O/S door pillar and foot is completely shot, plus bulkhead corner around top hinge. Never done anything on the bulkhead so far but I'll just take it one step at a time I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I'm into it and learning something. o_O worst case scenario I...
