P38A Warning icon : low range (meshing gears pic)

Thanks Saint, Once I moved across to Low range Neutral, the sounds and warning light started but didn't stop (until I moved it back across to high range). I did wait several seconds. The previous owner had also wired a separate coolant sensor - with a button on the dash that bleeped if there was...

P38A Warning icon : low range (meshing gears pic)

Hi all, I went to look at a 4.6 HSE for sale today. The test drive went well - and everything seemed to be working. I then decided to check if the low range was working - parked up, I moved the selector to the left and a warning sound started with a yellow/amber warning icon lit up (2 meshing...

    Disco 2 Buying advice please

Thanks Hunter. I am now thinking it would be best to walk away and wait until a better one comes available. Cheers Mark

    Disco 2 Buying advice please

Thanks Nigel, he did say he would only sell it 'as seen' with no faults fixed - and without even the usual 3-month minimum warranty. He said to make him an offer instead - and then I should fix the faults myself.

    Disco 2 Buying advice please

Hi Folks, I need some buying advice please. I have been to look at a Discovery 2 (Td5 Diesel manual) advertised by a dealer in Autotrader. I looked at it earlier today. The guy said it was a part-ex swapper. The body and interior are all OK (the chassis looked fine). It appeared to start on...

    Is £2,500 enough?

Thanks for the advice. I think Grrrrr is right to suggest keeping a wedge handy for inevitable repairs.

    Is £2,500 enough?

hi folks, I just sold my old Mercedes and now have £2500 cash to get either a P38 or Discovery 2. My preference is a Range Rover of any engine type. Is that sort of budget enough to get a good example that needs no major work? I realise at that price a rangie may need some issues sorting - but...

    Another frustrating day

A very similar thing happened to my 2300 Rover SD1 back in 1993. I'm ashamed to say I glued the thermostat housing back on with JB Weld type glue which didn't leak but was a real bodge. I then sold the car the next day to a nice young couple from Norway who had come over on the ferry specially...

    Taking the pi$$

I ordered an oil filter housing blanking plate from Paddocks.....delivery guy turns up with a huge box - joking that it felt empty. "Did you order some fresh air in a box mate" he joked. Don't Britpart make small padded envelopes?....no wonder the minimum shipping charge is so damned high !!

    Spin-on oil Filter adapter

Does anyone know where I can get a conversion adapter to replace the stock oil filter element housing to a setup that allows me to use a regular spin-on oil filter? I contacted Rocky Mountain a year ago (not surprisingly the last time I did an oil service!) and they said hopefully soon....but...

    What will it tow?

I have pulled a trailer full of new house bricks (approx. 2 tons) in my 88" with few problems. So long as you remember to brake early. I also pulled a boat in a big trailer - but the trailer itself was braked and helped slow me down ;)

Ford Transit vacuum pump for servo??

A bit OT..but when I used to own a classic 1990 range rover, the PAS pump died. Dealer wanted £900 for a replacement....then local auto electrician told me it was the same PAS pump used in a Ford Transit van. Ford dealer charged £170 for a new pump...fitted perfectly. Makes me wonder how many...

Opinion wanted: eBay or Kenlowe fan?

Thanks for the advice. It is worth a punt at under 40 quid....and I want to get some heat in the cab over winter. I reckon the idea of using the IR thermometer to help calibrate it is best. Cheers

Opinion wanted: eBay or Kenlowe fan?

Cheers...but I meant a brand new fan that fits straight on rather than a second-hand one from another vehicle. I have seen fans for jaguar/ford/BMW etc on eBay - but they would need cutting down and fettling to fit (most seem to have the plastic surround designed for a particular car)...and...
