    Greetings

Welcome to the mad forum. You have taken the first step by buying a Defender. I'm sure you will find lots of help and advise on here. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

    Expedition advice.

I would go for a 110. I think you will find axles are a bit stronger, plus you have the extra space. What ever you do to modify it after you have done a trip you will discover things don't work out as expected once on the trail. Below is a blog compiled by one of the guys on our trip. You might...

    Viscous fan

Yours must be old as all the ones I have seen are plastic. And they seem to have gone up in price since I fitted mine. About three years ago I paid £39 now they are £112. http://www.paddockspares.com/fan-assembly-3.html

    Expedition advice.

I would go for the most basic spec you can find and I wouldn't go alone. The sand gets every where. I took my 200 tdi 10 three years ago and I still keep finding sand in it. Part of the fun is being in a group and of course you have more security. And there is someone to pull you out when you...

sounds like it needs replacing. They are cheap enough.

    Defender Wheel Sizes

Just thought I should mention as I have the same Defender. Freestyle alloys will not fit your Defender. Firstly you will need spacers on the front and secondly and most importantly Freestyle are only rated for a 90 not for a 110. As mentioned above I think 110 Defenders look best with steel...

Do I have the wrong wheels?

Because if they are Freestyle wheels on a 110 Defender then they are not weight rated for a 110 and will void your insurance and you are driving a vehicle which is not road worthy. Just saying XX

    Battery, shortened life.

+1. I have the same. Mine can stand for several days or a couple of weeks at a time and its only used for short runs. Never had a battery problem. I did have to change the Alternator a couple of years back as it wasn't providing a good charge.

    Chassis stamps on chassis twice?

No I don't think so. But I believe that will change this year. I think there is a big push to get all the old polluting cars off the road. Unless they are over 30 years old then they are classified as a vintage car. My 1990 Defender has two more years to go. At the moment there is no MOT...

    Chassis stamps on chassis twice?

One good thing about the French MOT is its only every two years

    Chassis stamps on chassis twice?

Can't see any numbers on my chassis. I have to get them re stamped every time I take it for the Control Technic. ( French MOT)

Other Be careful what yer tow

The only snaking experience I have had was when I used to tow a Caravan. If the weight wasn't distributed correctly the Caravan would start to snake, I always found the best way to stop it was to ease off on the accelerator and let the speed decrease without hitting the brakes. Then maintain a...

With regards to the New MOT 2018 rules I sent a Letter to my MP

Anyone know what with happen with 200tdi and 300 tdi engines.

Other Be careful what yer tow

Now he's going to need a 110 Defender to tow them all away.

One life, live it. Don't spend it fixing Land Rovers. Drive them.

    Gutted

Don't want to say anything that might set you off, but I think if I had bought that as a project I would end up suffering from something or another. I think it would have ended up costing you a small fortune. I personally think that typo has saved you. Sometimes things work in mysteries ways. I...

Most sensible model for first timer

I wouldn't consider a 90 as they are too small. I think if I was in your situation I would be looking for a good 110, TD5. They area bit better for motorway trips and seem to have better creature comforts like heaters etc. And if your parking it on the street you will need to improve the...

    Roof rack help.

Don't know how much camping you intend on doing or in which type of climate, I bought something very cheap and cheerful which works a treat in warm climates. Used it on a trip across Morocco for three weeks and will be using it again. The tent cost 49€.

    Happy new year everyone

As a retired person I will be up at 03:00 to let the new addition to the family out for a pee, then up again at 07:00 for the same. My wife claims its our Christmas present. I don't remember agreeing to this.
